The house belonged to Marie Bailey who started tourism on Norfolk Island in the 1950s. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. The whole place was well presented. Loved it.

A great afternoon. Passionate tour guide. Lots of history, particularly about the Christian family. tide in an old tour bus. Cup of tea at the end

We so enjoyed our experience at The Pitcairn Settlers' Village yesterday. Our tour guide Lilian was both knowledgeable and generous with her time. The tour gave us a thorough background into the history of Norfolk Island.We learnt a lot and would recommend the experience to any visitor to the island.

This was one of the best tours we did while on Norfolk Island. The presentation was interesting and informative, giving an insight into the enterprise of some of the early settlers. The drive around the property on the Ford A bus was a highlight. To my mind, this is a must do tour.

I recommend this tour, it was a very enjoyable afternoon and rounded out our knowledge and understanding of the island’s history and transition from penal colony to a community of free settlers. Our guide was excellent and the buildings and artefacts on display very interesting.

What a fabulous experience. Our guide, Lillian was very knowledgeable and provided answers to all our questions. Would definitely recommend this tour to all visitors to the island.

There are many tours to choose from on Norfolk Island but do not miss this one. The guide was a descendant of the Pitcairners and had a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the past to impart. Learning about the amazing Marie Bailey and her contribution to the island was absolutely wonderful. To take this tour to the next level, we were treated to a ride in the original Norfolk Island tour bus and afternoon tea complete with the local guava jelly.

With a big beaming smile our guide Mary Beth welcomed my wife and I as we were the only ones booked on this tour but it was still going ahead! As our introduction started another couple arrived with the same warm welcome as presented to us. We rode around the property in the 1928 A-model Ford, enjoying the facts of the last original intact land grant used for local produce, gardens, the in use original homestead, working blacksmith bellow forge, memorabilia, whaling and military history and of course Marie Bailey whose insight and drive led to Norfolk Island’s tourism as it is today, a remarkable woman. A short video explained the resettlement from Pitcairn Island to Norfolk Island followed by a cuppa and taste of Guava jam which finished up our tour that went a little overtime but that’s the relaxed nature of the island. Mary Beth’s knowledge and enthusiasm about the Bailey family history and their legacies enhanced our experience and we would recommend it to anyone interested in the history of N.I.

Lillian was so welcoming when I arrived, the tour was very interesting and Lillian was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the family and property. I would definitely recommend this tour for the early history into how the Island has developed into what you enjoy today ❤️

Is this tour an option for people with some mobility issues? eg are there stairs or lots of walking

Hi Bev, thank you for your enquiry. It does depend on the individual. Although there is not a lot of walking, you do have to climb into an old Model A Truck which drives you round the grounds. It is quite a step to get up there, but the tour guide will be there to help you. There are one or two steps in various areas, but we have had people who have to use walking sticks and mobility movers manage very well in regards to everything. As I mentioned it all depends on the individual. I hope this helps and we look forward to hearing from you.
