I am responding to this querie because I want to give a huge thank you to the Preservation Trust for al the great work they do to reserve the living history of this storied island. The picture shows ancient roses that cover the old fishing shacks and the Underhill Cottages of Siasconset. The show of roses generally begins in the middle of June and goes into the first weeks of July. It is one of the most beautiful things you will ever see. Siasconset is an easy town to ride a bike or take a walk along the bluff walk. There is a great new playground down by the beach in an area called Codfish Fish Park, which is where the fisherman brought their dories up at the end of the day. Some of the present houses in that area started life as fishing shacks.

The NPT does research on historic buildings and promotes historic architecture. They also offer private walking tours for those who are really into preservation and the historic background of Nantucket buildings (must arrange in advance, not cheap but well worth it because walks are given by professionals who study architecture for a living). They organize an annual kitchen/house tour that is very popular.

Todas as casas na ilha são cheias de flores, fui na primavera, época mais linda... As ruas são um charme, acho que as pessoas gastam horrores para manter os jardins impecáveis, ficam!!! Uma das melhores viagens que já fiz!!!

Why would wealthy Americans who have enjoyed the heritage of Nantucket over many generations not donate and support this organisation for their children and grandchildren. We have all enjoyed the splendour of the Island and sailed the coast over the years immersed ourselves and family with long summer days yielding some of our fondest memories. You cant take it with you but enjoy the experience.
