It doesn’t far from Medina and you can walk in the courtyard and climb up to the different levels. Try ro go up to the tower and take a 360 look to the Sousse.

Worth the visit and climb onto the tower as this piece of history gives you really great view on Sousse and Medina beneath it.
Entry fee is only 8 TD/pp.
Ribat is well preserved and just being in place that stands here sice 8-9 century gives you a kind of special feeling

The Ribat de Sousse is a real jewel of medieval military architecture. Its imposing silhouette and thick walls testify to a rich and tumultuous past. One immediately feels transported to another time by walking through its corridors and towers.
I was impressed by the panoramic views of the city and the sea from the summit of Ribat. The architectural details are remarkable, and one can imagine the daily life of the soldiers who lived there centuries ago.
The Ribat is a place full of history and mystery, which offers a unique immersion into the past of Sousse. I highly recommend this tour to all travelers looking for authenticity and discovery.
The only downside is that unfortunately the surroundings are not well maintained by the city

Would highly recommend paying the small fee to enter. Having travelled in Tunisia for a while, it was nice to finally see information in English too. Staff are friendly and pleasant. Climb to the top (small spiral staircase) as the views are lovely but area is small so only a few people can go up at a time. It was quiet when I went. Like stepping back in time, exploring the Ribat. You could really appreciate these Roman ruins. An oasis of calm away from the busy Médina de Sousse outside.

The 8th century fortress is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Admission fee is TND 8. It is worth climbing the tower where there are beautiful views of the port and the entire city

The Aghlabids built a lot of ribats on the North African coast in the 8th and 9th centuries : this chain of fortifications reinforced their new strongholds. From their towers they kept watch and communicated any imminent danger. You can climb this watchtower, from where there are excellent views over Sousse's medina and down into the mosque.
Like the one in Monastir - which it resembles - the ribat in Sousse is in very good condition. Most interestingly, we were told that some of the marble and pillars (eg the two in the entrance) were pilfered from Byzantine churches after the Aghlabids conquered Malta.

This building was the most impressive that we saw in the city. The walls are tall and in very good shape and the tower looks good. It takes up a large area near the sea.

The Ribat tower afforded a good view of all the surrounding shops - definitely worth a climb! Not too hard, and a peaceful oasis in a very busy area

My first Tunisian Ribat - and a very pleasant one it was too!
Very manageable size and fun to wander around. Good views from the upper levels and the tower - especially down into the mosque which non muslims aren't allowed to enter.
Definitely worth a quick visit.

This is excellent considering it dates from the 800s AD. It doesn’t cost much to go in and you can walk round the courtyard and climb up to the different levels. There is a tower that you can also climb that gives wonderful views over Sousse.

Tunisia and morocco are very similar in their peoples. personally I feel safe in both. it is a matter of being sensible, as undoubtedly you would when walking around a strange city in any country. if anything I felt safer in Marrakech than I have done in London.
