What a great experience. This shop is legitimate and honest, no switching of gems with cheaper gems. In fact, some of my gems weren’t sparkling enough so they were replaced with higher quality gems from her own private collection. She takes such pride in her work! She has a large jewelery selection but she can also custom make your designs. She can use your loose stones that you bring or buy loose stones from her and create you own unique designs. I trust her 100%. This place is real! Call to make an appointment. She responds immediately and will work around your schedule. It was the best place that I found in Mandalay the 4 years that I lived there!

My husband and I were travelling around Burma on our honeymoon and decided to buy a pigeon blood Ruby as they are found in Burma. Mo's shop was recommended by the lady at the hotel we were staying at. We visited 3 times before finally settling on a beautiful ruby which I plan to have set later. While I was there I noticed a beautiful imperial jade bracelet which I knew I would never find again and after spending a day or two thinking about it my husband bought it as an early valentines present! There was also a jade ring I loved but hopefully that will be on another trip. Mo was so knowledgeable, helpful and patient throughout!

We 1st met Ms Moe /Ms Mar Lar at our visit at Diamond Plaza. Our attention caught the beautiful drum pendant and a lovely pigeon blood ring. The ladies are all nice. They don't hard sell or anything. She explains what kind of gemstones is it. Quality, color and cut. We ended up buying it. And we are very pleased. Will definitely go back again.

Moe and her nieces treated us like we were royalty. Moe could have sold us a much more expensive piece but because she wants you to be happy more than she wants to make a huge profit, she makes sure you get the right piece you will wear. We wanted a Pigeon Blood Myanmar Ruby ring. I thought I wanted it for my middle finger. She said I would need a large ruby then and it would be a ring that would be "too fancy" and I wouldn't wear it everyday - which was my other criteria. Therefore she sold me a pinky ring. She educated us more on natural verses heat treated rubies. I LOVE my ring and haven't stopped wearing it since that day. Moe could have made a higher purchase from us but instead she wanted me to leave with what I came there to buy. You will get a good deal, quality and the real thing that you can trust and a wonderful experience with Moe.

We hadn’t really planned to get something fancy, and just wanted a reliable place to take a look at some gems. We were recommended by Jimmy, our tour guide.
Madam Mar Lar Min, as other reviews have said, speaks excellent English and was very patient and helpful in providing information.
We spent a lovely morning there, and my partner ended up buying a little emerald earring for himself, and I bought a blue topaz ring. The ring had to be reset as it was too large for me, and re-setting in silver takes a day. Apparently gold takes longer.
We returned the next day, I was curious about jade and asked her how to assess the quality of jade. Once again, in seconds, her nieces had produced a series of jade bead necklaces of varying shades and quality for us to view. She talked us through the jade quality and types. We saw some beautiful green ones, and then she produced a lavender one. Fortunately for me, I was wearing a plain dark blue top and when I tried on the lavender necklace, I was smitten! I ended up buying it.
Interestingly, later that day when we were back in the hotel, I was examining it more closely, and found a slight scratch on one of the beads, and a slight chip on the other. I could also see that a number of them had brownish tinges to them and were not all smooth lavender. Naturally I was quite concerned, and decided to make one final trip back to the shop the following day.
When I spoke with Madam, she explained that the imperfections were quite natural and that I had nothing to worry about. They wouldn’t crack or chip, and that the slight discolouration on the necklace was natural. She explained that because this was a bead necklace made of lavender jade, these differences were caused by the fact that that lavender jade of a similar colour is hard to find; so it was inevitable. She did offer the option of getting something else instead if I was not fully satisfied. It was at this point when she passed me the certificate, saying that she had forgotten to pass it to be the previous day. After receiving the Cert, I actually felt a lot better, and decided to keep the necklace. It’s stunning! (See picture attached: when wearing the jade necklace, none of the ‘imperfections’ can be seen. They are translucent and simply beautiful.)
In summary: she knows her trade, and is very knowledgeable. She also appears trustworthy and I would go back to her.
Tips:
1. Ride sharing apps have come to Myanmar. We use Grab as it's available extensively in Myanmar. It's cheap and reliable. Because there were only two of us, we used the ThoneBane (tuk tuk) to get around the city; and back and forth from the gem store.
2. Make sure she attends to you. Her nieces are absolutely lovely and speak English well, but you want to be supported by a professional.
3. The young ladies will shine a torchlight on everything you are looking at, so it all looks brilliant. Look at what you want without the torchlights. I had to ask the ladies to switch the torchlights off many, many … many times, so that I could see what it looks like naturally. I’m not walking round with a torchlight shining on me, so I want to see what the jewllery looks like naturally!
4. If you’re buying something a little more elaborate / expensive; there is a chance that it comes with a certificate. Make sure you ask for it, but understand that not everything will come with one.
5. And of course: Google and educate yourself with the basics on jade before buying.
Lastly, caveat emptor!

We have been very well received. They have all kind of jewelry for all budgets. They don't try to sale you the most expensive one, they just respect your choices. They made us discounts. I recommend you to go to this shop to buy your true stones (sapphire, ruby, jade...)

Me and my wife went to Moe Gems while we are at Mandalay after reading the review from trip advisor. Compare to most of the gems shop that we visited in other countries that flooded by tourists and tour buses, run by sales girls that hardly know the gems yet very pushy to try to sale the overpriced and sometimes fake / poor quality stone with inflated price, Myanmar is the place to get genuine stones with fair price. Moe is a family owned Bussiness. We are shocked when we were there that the gate of the shop was closed. The owner is a lovely lady with very good English (She used to teach English in the University). The family has been generations running the shop. The shop has good collections of high quality Ruby. It help if you know how to look at the stones yourself, else be reassured that the owner is very sincere and know her stones very well. The lady showed us the stones and give very helpful advice. I managed to get a perfect cut grade A Mogok natural ruby without any heat treatment with fair price. I have visited Myanmar for 3 times, and this is the best Ruby that I managed to find. My wife got herself some star rubies and sapphire pendant ear rings set and 2 rings with ruby. They are all good quality stones.

From the moment I stepped into Moe’s, I was greeted by friendly and helpful staff. The lady serving me was attentive to my needs and provided excellent customer service. She assisted me to find the perfect ruby ring and pair of earrings and also gave genuine and highly informative advice. I was suprised when she offered me a fair price for these Mogok rubies and was willing to accommodate my budget. I highly recommend visiting Moe’s. My experience at Moe’s ended my trip in Myanmar and Mandalay on high note.
A very happy customer indeed!

We found Moe's shop thanks to TripAdvisor recommendations. We decided to try.
They had different jewels with a wide range of prices and quality. They were kind and patient. They gave us great advice and doscounts. I definitely recommend this place to buy good jewels in myanmar.

I would like to know what are your trading hours. We get into Mandalay in the evening and fly out again early. Do you open at nighttime? Michelle
