Is the exhibit in TAEC provides complete showcase of Laos ethnic minorities? How much is the entrance fee?
Thanks for your question and interest in TAEC! Currently, our permanent exhibition showcases in-depth exhibits on four of the ethnic groups in Laos (Akha, Hmong, Kmhmu, Tai Lue), as well as an introduction section with a map, listings of all the officially recognised groups in Laos, and common categorisations. The temporary exhibition currently on display is "Seeds of Culture" featuring ethnic groups from Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand, with jewellery, headdresses, and traditional clothing.
There are thought to be over 100 different groups in Laos, but instead of trying to interpret all of these ethnicities (which would be quite overwhelming!) we have chosen to provide an accessible look at a few of the groups. Through these groups, we can demonstrate the issues that many of Laos' ethnic communities are undergoing, and highlight the fascinating material culture, rituals, and beliefs that are still thriving in Laos.
The entry fee is 25,000k (about US$3.00). Every Friday at 3pm, there is a free tour, and Thursdays and Saturdays, we hold handicraft workshops -- Hmong Embroidery and Kmhmu Basket Weaving. Please check our website and FB pages for more information!
