- The Citadel: The Citadel of Aleppo is a large medieval fortified palace in the centre of the old city of Aleppo, northern Syria. It is considered to be one of the oldest and largest castles in the world. the Citadel dates back at least to the middle of the 3rd millennium BC.
- The Caravanserais: The city of Aleppo is known for the many Caravanserais there are beautiful and distinctive building style and founded to be an economic force.
- The Souks: For centuries, the souks of Aleppo were the beating heart of this great trading city. The name Aleppo conjures images of the cornucopia of goods to be found in the city's markets – from spices and traditional sweets to textiles, carpets, and famous Aleppo soap.

I recently went on a tour of Syria visiting Damascus, Al Wadi, Homs, Hama and Aleppo. The highlight of the tour was visiting Madame Rubhino in the famous Hotel Baron and making new friends. The trip was organised by Carly Fillis who was my guide for the trip to Iraq last year.
Carly has a love for Syria and organised this for me through Golden Target Tours based in Damascus. My guide was a wonderful person called Hussein and was exceptionally good at his job. I was saddened by my time in Syria, didn’t feel threatened or in danger and would advise people to visit to get the tourist industry moving. I would visit again.

While I enjoyed some particularities in Aleppo (like kind of closed melted cheese fata'irs that were not present in Damascus), the city of Aleppo is mildly disappointing.
The citadel is superb, but mostly the history of it and the gate. The inside or the view are mediocre.
The mosques, apart from the Great Mosque, are not so impressive.
The city has more Christians than Damascus (especially Armenians who fled from Turkey after 1915), and the churches are bigger. The Greek-Catholic church for example is quite big. But not very interesting. Even if, in my times, Aleppo was "the capital of Muslim culture", the image of the Armenian church was visible on the official posters promoting it.
There are good goldsmiths and artisants in Aleppo.
The biggest building in the city is the new town hall, which is sometimes illuminated at night in various colours or, for example, the portrait of the previous president.

Bu şehri 2007 yılında ziyaret ettim , O yıllarda henüz Suriye savaşı yoktu ve şehir gayet huzurlu bir yerdi , şehirde en değerli gezilecek yerler , Halep kalesi ve Halep çarşısıdır ,müzelerini de es geçmeyin derim , fakat bu yorumu yaptığım yıl olan 2017'de Halep nasıldır onu bilemeyeceğim , güvenlik nasıldır şuan bilmiyorum , bence araştırmadan gitmeyiniz.

Only go here with body armour and helmet. It tends to get mortared a lot so take a medical kit as well

رغم ان الوقت الذي زرت فيه حلب في اوج الحرب الا انها مدينة جميلة رغم الخراب الذي حل فيها .. لقد رأيت نصفها فقط .. النصف الأخر كان مظلماً

Алеппо по колориту и достопримечательностям не уступал Дамаску. Старые узкие улочки, мечети, площади. А цитадель Алеппо и старый рынок - это вообще были шедевры. Но скорее всего, этого уже не увидеть. Даже если все и восстановят это уже будет другой город.

Мои воспоминания об Алеппо от января 2009 года, когда мы путешествовали по Сирии. Очень, очень красивый и колоритный восточный город, из которого не хотелось уезжать.
Современные фото улиц Алеппо после боев, которые там шли, вызывают слезы. Исторический центр города, входящий в список объектов Всемирного наследия ЮНЕСКО, получил такие повреждения, которые вряд ли смогут исправить.
