This quaint neighborhood that is partly under reconstruction has narrow alleys with cafes and some small museums. In one of these houses you can enter to see the atrium. But the main feature is the wind towers typical of old Dubai.

Nice place to get to know ancient Dubai, it is worth getting lost in its little streets and visiting every craft and antique shop, as well as typical foods. Then we advise crossing at the abra to the sokos across the channel.
For the heat in July we recommend going close to the end of the afternoon.

The place is under construction right now and most of it is closed to even walk through. I doubt it will be done soon so avoid for now
We walked from Dubai old village passed al fahidi through some souks to the abra and took that for a tour and were dropped at the souks.
It was super hot in June for walking but we did it anyway. Disappointing that this particular part which we thought would be the more authentic old town was closed. The Dubai old village was nice to walk through and eat breakfast though the shop owners are pretty persistent and all want to strike up a conversation and that conversation only ends when you leave even if you buy something they will want you to buy more. The shop owners by the old town are even more persistent and it's uncomfortable to have 20 people one after the other ask you where are you from when you just want to walk down the street. You really can't even take pictures. The abra workers were a little helpful and we paid for the 30 minutes boat ride tour just to get away from the shops. The boat ride was nice, but Id get it on the gold souks side of the river instead to avoid walking through this area. Maybe when the construction is done it might be worth visiting but even then it's hard to tell what's original and what is just theme over a mall.

This is a work in progress. During our visit most of the streets were blocked for construction. It was very hot with no place to sit down and very little shade. However, when the construction is finished, I think this district will be well worth visiting. Lots of small art galleries and other shops in a historical district

Just visited on June 19th, mid-day. It was hot as expected. The streets were mostly empty and there were lots of closures. Many parts of the neighborhood are under renovation which made it hard to navigate through from one point to another. The attractions (e.g. galleries, cafes) were quite sparse. My party later wandered towards Al Seef and that neighborhood had seemed nicer and more lively. It was well kept with lots of souvenir stores open. The one plus for Al Fahidi was an accidental discovery of a nice scarf shop run by the sweetest store owner. My mother and I bought a number of beautiful scarves at a great price.

I have been to Dubai many times but never been to historic part of old Dubai. This time I made effort. Getting down from nearest metro station, I kept on walking towards Al Fahidi Historical neighbourhood. The place gave me a sense that local Dubai people is not only about glittering building, they lived a Bedouin life in tents in deserts. Coffee museum and cultural center were good to visit. Then took a boat ride across the river to go gold souk. Overall I had expected little more from the place. It stills shows concrete houses in old design. Instead, there could been tents in the desert. I would say, it’s a good to have visit, not a mystery-have visit.

We had a great time on our tour. Adeel shared alot of information and brought us by many sights. Helped us take photos, very friendly. Would definitely recommend.

This is a quieter, older side of Dubai which many visitors may not know exists.
There are some great restaurants selling Middle Eastern food, including the fantastic Arabian Tea House, and plenty of interesting installations and sights, including a replica Bedouin camp and mother and baby camel.
The area is adjacent to the old Dubai Creek which is very picturesque.

The neighborhood itself is open and you can enjoy walking around. You’ll have to pay for entrance to museums.
