Nothing much to visit here but the trave desk and the drivers push you to see Araku valley. Not a must visit place. avoid if possible!

Not as great as I hoped it would be and definitely not recommend to visit in Summer and even in Feb. Very hot like Vizag.
There is not much to do in Araku valley. I wish the tourism is gonna get developed in such a way that any tourist will have the time of their lives by staying for a vacation because right now it's not that great.
It's too bad I expected more.
It just looks like a generic town with just 4 main sight seeing places.

My favourite part of the visit is the chill weather and the warm campfire accompanied by tasty breakfast and a nice lunch. The night journey at night through the tunnels is also a wonderful part of the journey.

Arakku valley has beautiful landscapes however tourists have no sense of saving the environment / cleanliness. A strict ban on plastics and littering on the way in the entire hill region should be executed, tourists have no sense of responsibility to keep this place clean. Local authorities have to deploy more resources to keep the place clean and neat... Beautiful place is getting polluted at its peak ---- it's time to get into some actions by AP Govt....
Many view points are unguarded and lot of local vendors selling food on the narrow double lane roads is adding chaos to the traffic jam.
Stay at Arakku - many hotels are keeping the name as resorts and offer tent stays on a open ground, not sure if they have proper toilet and sanitization facility, people pollute the in and around areas and near by chaparai falls to take bath and other daily routines...

The various view points and the cofee garden while traveling to Araku Vally are the main attraction in the valley. Zigzag roads create concerns on safety but presence of a expert driver make you enjoy the whole journey. The evening journey may enthrilling you with midnight darkness experience even at 6 o'clock. Bamboo chickens by local shops can multiple you pleasure. People are very helpful.

Update 12 Apr 2022 -
1. No longer recommend visit to Araku.
2. Right from 07 Kms short of Borra Caves to Araku town, extortion by the locals have started wherein they block the roads with make shift cables/pipes/bamboo poles and harrass all travellers asking them for money. If one does not oblige, they just hold you back for 15-20 mins at every self-styled road block thereby delaying ur complete itinery. And there are atleast 20-25 road blocks.
3. On being asked to leave us they shout and make lot of noise. When one started video recording/click photos, they threatned us as well with dire consequenses !!!!
4. Best part is this racket is being carried out by ladies and children as probably they would have been told that people are more tolerant to them !!!
5. On telling them that I am an armed forces guy, they told even the police are giving them incl SI & C, who are we to be excused !!!
6. What i am appaled at is the lack of local police and civil administration also to tackle this menace. Infact, right in front of us they even stopped a Govt official vehicle of some Tribal Development Ministry !!!
7. As tribals they are protected and our heritage which we cherish. However this new extortion racket running right under the notice of local police and civil administration is really shocking and scary, especially when one is travelling with family and children. I am also privi to a group of Senior citizens who were made to de-board from the bus and made to walk as they did not allow tye bus to go further ahead.
8. This was my 5th visit to Araku and 1st after Covid-19. However i never ever faced such a issue in any of my previous visits since 2006. This seems to be a recent development.
9. Please be warned and very careful as they have sharp weapons for their day to day activities. I will STRONGLY NOT RECOMMED anyone to visit Araku and face any escalation of such activities. Very dangerous and shocking.
10. Wonder when the local police and the civil adminidtration will wake up ??
11. Attaching a few photos of the road blocks for info of all.
12. Lot of construction activities going on. Tribal museum also under renovation. Hotels seem to be absent as always. Those present are as usual poor standard and the quality of APTDC has only detiriorated drastically over the years. Poor state of affairs. ARAKU HAS LOST ITS GLORY !!!!
13. Visit at your own risk to life and property of your near and dear ones !!! I thought is prudent to info all so that no one else should face the same problems as we did.

Had heard a lot about Araku for many decades and planned a visit to this place from Vizag. Was a disappointing experience, except the marvel of Burra Caves which is a natural wonder but with low maintenance inside and zero vigilance, this beauty which must have taken a million years to form may lose its glory in decades! The train journey up is a bit picturesque but the journey back took almost 6 hours for 137 kms and even in a Vistadome, one can feel restless with the slow crawl of the train as it has to keep giving way to goods train on the single track for 75% of the distance. Araku itself was massively disappointing with nothing there to write home about and all the tourist fixtures like the tribal museum, gaalikonda (wind mountain), the garden, the waterfall, etc being something like kids stuff. If you still want to visit on a budget, it is better to go in the morning and take the non AC second sitting in the morning 0650 train. It hardly costs anything but the coach was better than a AC coach and also you can see all the curves, valley and tunnels without any hindrance. Better to get down at Burra guhalu station (30 kms and an hour before Araku) and maybe spend time and take the evening train back from there. One can just go walking to Burra Caves from the station and completely avoid all the car and auto racket at the station (550 rupees per person in auto for 5 people sharing -2750 for 5) or engage a sharing cab (1500 rupees for 2 people) or 2000 rupees for own cab to see Burra Caves and the tourist spots at Araku. Alternatively, take the IRTDC tour or the APTDC tour, which seem to be better organized. The tourism infra at this place is lousy and there do not seem to be proper places to stay or see or have decent food. The entry tickets in most places are Rs.50 but have zero value.

1. Bad road full of potholes. Traffic jams plenty as people randomly stop their car to take picture of whatever fancies them.
2. Dirty. Garbage and plastic bottles all over the place.
3. Views very mediocre. If you are used to Himachal, Uttarakhand, Kerala, western ghats, then you will be sorely disappointed.
4. AP tourism is completely missing in action. Interestingly I often saw police in civilian dress but carrying modern rifles. I asked the driver who said that this common here, police not wear uniform. Never seen anything like this anywhere else.
5. No decent place to eat. But that became a boon in disguise, fasted 12 hours.
In summary, if you are a tourist who likes neat and clean places, unspoiled natural beauty, sensitive fellow tourists who are considerate to others, then this place is definitely not for you. Rated 1 out of 5 because there is no way to enter 0.
By the way, I have travelled widely both inside the country and outside.

Amazing experience! I loved the place. You must stay away from social media to enjoy the magical world here. Kollaput resort is excellent to stay but there is a problem with the network here.
