This large and very beautiful old mosque was one of the most important buildings constructed by Ahmed Shah I after the establishment of Ahmedabad as his capital. Constructed in 1424 CE, the Jami Masjid (congregational mosque) is in the shape of a large square, its central area occupied by an immense courtyard, with an old wazu tank (for ablutions) in the centre. The corridor that rings the courtyard has giant letters in Arabic painted along the walls, and beautiful arches all along.
The main prayer hall of the mosque has exquisite stone carving, both outside and inside. Women are not allowed inside the prayer hall, and photography is not allowed either, but my husband, who was able to enter, reported that the mosque has rows of carved pillars - three hundred of them, as mentioned on the sign outside - which are spectacular.
No entry fee is charged, but a dress code is in place.

A beautiful and elegant looking mosque in Ahmadabad amongst the narrow and dirty lanes. The architecture is great and makes it worth visiting. However, one has to travel through narrow and congested old city roads.

A visit to Ahmedabad is not complete without a visit to this very ancient mosque, older than the Friday Mosque of the same name in Delhi. A couple of days ago we arrived here in the evening, a time when the photographs are more problematic but the view is more spectacular. The courtyard in front is immense compared to the covered part of the building, whose entry is forbidden to women. An impressive quantity of columns inside make the mosque one of a kind.

Altra moschea visitata ad Ahmedabad è stata la Jama Masjid con un bellissimo cortile grande e tranquillo. La struttura è stata costruita con elementi di templi hindu e templi jainisti. Nella sala di preghiera ci sono 260 colonne che sostengono 15 cupole. Si entra lasciando fuori le scarpe mentre nella sala di preghiera le donne non possono entrare.

Located in the hustle bustle of the Old City, this mosque is iconic heritage and medieval structure built during Sultanate Period and is the basis of all future mosques constructed in and around Ahmedabad.
Has a huge courtyard and peaceful unlike the market outside. It is an active mosque so visitors need to be careful about the attire and need to remove shoes outside.
A must in the tour itinerary while exploring old Ahmedabad.
No restrictions on photography except during prayer timings.

Jami masjid is famous and is located in main market of Ahmedabad. The place is used for prayer hence one need to remove footwear while entering inside. Until that time one cannot see what lies inside but once you enter inside you can witness the marvellous structure.
The pillar at entrance are huge and has some detsoked carvings on it. The courtyard is huge from where you can do photography.
Take auto to reach here as there is no parking space for cars. As the location is in market hence the area is congested.

Jami Masjid is located in old Ahmedabad & is a must - visit, specially if you're on a heritage tour of the old city. A short flight of stairs leads to the Masjid gate where you remove your footwear. The entry is free.
Once inside, we were surprised with the open courtyard which seemed improbable from the road. An ablution pond exists in the center & the periphery is lined with a shaded colonnade for prayers.
The main structure has exquisite pillars with carvings worth seeing. We didn't enter the main building but had a round of photography in front of it.

This is very close to the main attractions of Old Ahmedabad including the Teen Darwaja, Manek Chowk. There was no entrance charge, but you must leave your shoes at the door. Once inside you have a sense of open space in stark contrast to the lively streets outside. There is a central pool and an adjacent prayer hall with myriad pillars which create beautiful shadow patterns as the sun moves across the sky above the open courtyard beyond. be aware that photos within this prayer space are forbidden.

The masjid is well known with prayers being carried out everyday. There is history attached with it being associated with Mughal history...

Of course it is open to all as are most mosques in India in my experience! I am not sure what the opening hours are but I am sure you can look it up on Google.
