Undiscovered gem of a museum.

This is a beautiful compelling and innovative museum about tribal arts in Madyar Pradesh state. Recently renovated and upgraded with new exhibits, it is very near the Khajuraho Western Temples (walkable). It has installation and crafts art, painting, and other exhibits depicting tribal life. Don’t miss the fabric tree in the big building, breathtaking.

We were there on Dec. 29 and unfortunately the museum is still closed. There were many workers there getting it ready to open (Khajuraho is one of the host cities for the G20 Summit in February 2023, and so there is a lot being done in town to be prepared to welcome world leaders, and I believe they intend to have this museum ready and open by then). Someone let us walk around the grounds for a few minutes, and we could see that this place will be wonderful when completed and re-opened. I am sorry we didn't get to see it in its glory. We walked there from our hotel 1.5 km away; it is just a few meters away from the west temple complex.

Delightful

I was there on a Monday and unfortunately the museum was closed. Luckily I saw a gardener and requested him to open the gate to the garden. They allowed me inside , I was even able to see the collection inside the museum, which is beautifully arranged. Was able to pickup some authentic souvenirs from the shop too. Overall was delighted by the helpfulness of the staff. Kudos to them!!

Excellent potray of the tribal art

Walking distance from the west side temples, Entry is free. This place is build to give feel of tribals arts around MP.

A small but nice museum of local tribal art. The tree of Life is the one I immensely enjoyed. Located in the city. Go for it.

GOOD MUSEUM FOR TRIBAL & FOLK ART: FINDING ITS ENTRY WAS A MAJOR ISSUE

The Tribal Art of Khajuraho is located in the Chandela Cultural Complex. Unfortunately we took a long while in finding the place and thus couldn't spend much time within. The arrow markers from the Western Group of Temples to the Museum took us haywire. But we finally did reach it. The place has an inconspicuous entrance which adds to the problem. The place is a must visit for those who are interested in tribal art and culture. The has over 500 tribal antiques like folk paintings, masks and terracotta objects. We could barely spend much time here as we were to run to catch our train. Will positively make a more detailed visit the next time.

Бродя с женой по деревне Кхаджурахо, мы наткнулись на бесплатный Музей народных и племенных искусств Индии - State Museum of Tribal and Folk Art. Зашли внутрь под приветствие двух молодых работников музея. Низкорослые дружелюбные парни оказались представителями вымирающего племени, творчество которого также было представлено здесь.
Музей в 1984 году открыл художник, искусствовед K.C. Aryan, который всю свою жизнь занимался собирательством предметов искусства забытых кочевых народов своей родины, чтобы увековечить их в истории. Музей может похвастаться богатой коллекцией уникальных артефактов со всей Индии, включая Раджастхан, Химачал-Прадеш и Пенджаб. Это предметы из бронзы, литографские гравюры (метод печати, основанный на несмешиваемости масла и воды), резьба по дереву и камню, картины, игрушки, вышивка, терракотовые скульптуры, ситцевая роспись (ситцевое полотно - это тканый текстиль, изготовленный из неотбеленной ткани), куклы, ритуальные вещи, украшения, маски из папье-маше. Возраст некоторых экспонатов уже 800 лет.
Мы увидели, как древние племена украшали свои жилища, узнали, что некоторые из них, спасаясь от набегов врагов и животных, строили дома на деревьях..
Музей заслуживает признания за демонстрацию бесценных артефактов Индии.
