Tickets sell very fast so book as early as possible as online booking is possible
There are five coaches, 2 of first class, 2 of second class and one general.
Engine is at the back and first class F1 is in front
Train seats are benches. In first class four persons can occupy one bench
There are big glass windows to see outside view.
Door is closed before departure by the staff from outside and can not be opened from inside.
There is no space to keep luggage in the coach. Small suitcases can be kept under the seating bench.
There are no toilets in the coach.
There is a paid toilet facility at Coonoor station and then the train stops for a longer time at Ketti station where one can use the toilets on the platform. Ketti station comes 45 minutes after departure from Coonoor
Total journey time from Coonoor to Ooty is one hour and fifteen minutes
There is not much to see on the way as the train passes mostly from narrow corridors. There are a few tunnels and a few valley views on the way

The poorly maintained parking area at the station puts one off. Make sure to book your tickets online to avoid having to go early just to get seats. We booked the first class. The train arrives and leaves right on time so be prepared. It is not a steam engine in Ooty. The quaint looking coaches could do with some refurbishment of the interiors and fittings. We took the train to Conoor which most others seem to have done as well. The journey took a little over an hour and didn't have the spectacular views I had expected. To be fair, I guess those would have been better if I had continued onward after Conoor. But, nevertheless, its worth taking this little train which travels slowly through passes and hills overlooks the Ketti Valley and lots of greenery. Keep you camera/mobile handy to take pictures and don't forget to listen to the little train even choo-chooing as it chugs along.

This is a must have experience when travelling to Ooty. It is advised to book tickets in advance via IRCTC. There are 3-4 trains in a day during different timings. The cost of first class is roughly 350 bucks while second sitting is 150 bucks one way. The journey is quite beautiful. The train passes through tunnels, forests and bridges.

We booked a first class ticket which generally cost INR 750/- and can be booked from IRCTC website directly which is the best way if you want to travel in reserved coaches otherwise general coaches will be crowded.
We took journey from Ooty-Coonoor and vice versa which gives ample time to explore Coonoor and return back on the same day.
The biggest problem in first-class will depend upon with whom you're travelling as people use this train for commuting purpose and can bring huge luggage where you will stuffed in the cabin and not enjoy any views.
So the best way to enjoy the journey is book at times where crowd will be too less ususally early morning train and come back in the afternoon train.

This the best thing in INDIA!! You cannot miss this. Absolute fun and takes you back by a century. Superbly maintained British Era train. From coonor to Ooty or the other way round. The awesome landscape and the breathtaking view it offers.

Well, the feeling that you have after you purchase the ticket is that of triumph. Victory of sorts because you can now board the World Heritage Toy Train at Ooty. The tickets are booked well in advance and it is limited in numbers.
After getting into the train, the feeling knows no bounds, because you are actually experiencing History.The journey through the hills, jungles and small stations is full of excitement and it shows on your face !

The toy train was very fun to ride! The train was stopping every hour at the most beautiful seanic points! It was a great experience! 😁👌
They also allowed us to stay for atleast 20 minutes to click pictures at the stops! It was a very good ride I would recommend you to ride it!

The views are lovely, but it can get a little tiring. The frequent screeches of the train can be annoying for some. Even the 3 1/2 hour journey from metupalayam to Ooty is a bit too long. The seats are cramped, and with too many bags or trolleys, you will have a hard time. I recommend trying the toy train journey at least once, because it is worth the effort. If I were to do it again, I would take the train from Ooty up to Coonoor.

If u r in Ooty, board the train from Udagamandalam. It will take around an hour to 70 mins to reach Coonoor. Ultimate experience and scenic beauty... Plz go for it, must do activity...
U can take the same route means by Troy train from Coonoor to Udagamandalam at around 12:35 pm and 16:30 pm...

I want to get from Mysore to Ooty. Spend Friday to Sunday and then Monday on to Gorkhana for a few days. How can I fit the toy train into this limited time and get from one place to next to explore the area of ooty before heading to the next place. Thanks

You can do Ooty - Coonoor - Ooty in toy train when you explore Coonoor. It takes hardly first half of your day.
