The museum is very pretty and there’s a bit to see. Your guide can explain everything in detail. It’s too bad that photography is not allowed. The pillars are perfectly aligned no matter which direction you look.

Do not forget to visit this place when you visit the Meenakshi temple.
It is within the Temple museum. There is a nominal ticket to enter the museum. Although the ornate pillars with the beautiful ceiling and excellent lighting arrangements are just a part of that area, there are plenty of sculptures, paintings, and other items to be seen.
Don't get disappointed if you count the pillars and find that they are less than 1000. It is a figure of speech. And not all the pillars are equally sculptured.
But it is definitely worth the visit.

A room with a thousand carved stone pillars, as well as exhibits of statuary and other artifacts, this is a separate section of the temple with a separate entrance fee. Worth it. Spend some time wondering around, and be sure to check out the ceiling artwork.

Hundreds of pillars, carved with awesome sculpture and
eye elusive paintings on roof, Equally distanced, a marvel of architecture, you can not believe these were made at that era when no modern building equipment was available. Single stones were transported by elephants with coconut ropes and made of old tools, No computer, graphics etc... Hats off the artists and engineer's of that time.

This is a museum inside the Meenakshi amman temple, entry for Indians are Rs 5 and foreigner is Rs 50, well worth to see the amazing carvings and historic artifacts.

This structure is located within the Madurai Meenakshi Temple. The stone with which its carved, the old wooden door which is close to 18 feet high/long, etc are worth seeing!!!

A marvelous construction and its grandeur always makes us standstill for a while. We can enjoy seeing the sculpture in each and every pillar opposite to Aayiram Kaal Mandapam (hall with 1000 pillars).

This is part of the Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple and has some very beautiful sculptures. Although not quite a thousand pillars, it a large number of exquisitely carved pillars. Too bad you cannot take pictures as not even cell phones are allowed inside the complex anymore.

Within the sri Madurai Meenakshy temple is the Aayiram kal mandapam or thousand pillar structure, a must see place. there is one pillar in this which will give saptaswara if percussed but now this pillar has been enclosed.

博物館の口コミを1点評価した旅人です。2018年7月に行ったとき、ミナークシー寺院は素晴らしかったがその4か月前に博物館で火事があり寺院の東エントランスホールともども見ることすらできませんでした。１年近くたっても当博物館が火事で入場できないとか火事のダメージはどうかとか復興したとか、旅の参考となるコメントが全く載せられていないので1点とした次第で博物館自体見てないのでその評価をしたわけではありません。博物館スタッフからそのような情報を発信されてもよいのではないでしょうか。近況につき教えてください。ぜひ見たいので再訪したいと考えています。

The hall of thousand pillars(Ayiramkal Mandapam):
The largest mandapam in the holy Meenakshi temple complex, this mandapam is situated near Veeravasantharayar Mandapam to the north. This was built by Ariyanatha Mudaliyar, minister and commander of Viswanatha Naicker in the year 1569.
