Most enjoyable garden in South India

Flowers bring joy. It is a beautiful garden on a hill slope overlooking Ooty. Quite a stark contrast with the surrounding poor dwellings and the hustle and bustle of the average Indian city. I enjoyed it also because there is no garbage and strict supervisors ensure nobody picks roses or goes into the rose beds. As a result you can focus on the numerous species of different coloured roses. Fantastic flowers. For me the number one highlight of my visit to South India.

Must visit for small kids

Very large variety of roses. Definitely kids will like it. Can be covered in one hour. Place is well maintained. Not much walking to be done.

Couldn't find roses in a rose garden unless that wasn't the right time.

What was hilariously funny, at the ticket counter the lady remined me there was no refund option if we didn't find roses.
Didn't bother about the lady at the ticket counter, we smartly went inside the garden.
Couldn't find roses in a rose garden unless that wasn't the right time.
However, the garden was quite big and built in a well-planned manner, so we could just chill out over there.

Can Give It A Miss

I'd gone to Ooty as a child back in the 90s and the rose garden was lush and blooming. Now, it looks rather sparse and filled with people taking selfies.
The sloping green lawns and elevation of the garden still makes for a decent visit but it's not what I would call a must-see or must-visit.
I enjoyed the walk upto the garden from the city center because of the lovely weather.

All the rose plants were either dead or withered. They could keep the garden closed for visitors till the roses are blooming. Waste of money for the visitor

Great place must visit again

Beautiful place, spread over considerable area on a hillside overlooking ooty city centre. If not for the sounds of incessant hooting from the streets below it would have been the ideal place to sit, relax, admire Beautiful variety of roses and other plants. Great locations for photo opportunities around the garden. Some of the rose bushes had funny names, and some named after people. We initially thought these people came here and donated to the garden hence the variety of roses named after them. But we couldnt quite comprehend the fact that Cary Grant visited and donated here 😆

Disappointing

We had read a lot about Ooty's Rose Garden, but unfortunately, we found it to be quite disappointing; maybe it was a case of high expectations. Most of the roses had wilted away (it was end-May 2022). Also, the garden directly faces an over-built portion of Ooty which is quite an eyesore. In case you are short of time, you can skip this one - both the Botanical Gardens and the Karnataka Horticulture Garden are more enjoyable.
