The view is really good and it is one of the highest peak of Tamil Nadu. You can get a very good view of Nilgiri mountain region from here. I would suggest to start early so that you can enjoy the place with a good weather and shop around.

Very nice place to visit. Avoid peak timings like long weekends as roads gets congested. Weather becomes very cold if it's cloudy n rainy

There were big crowds on a Monday 8am in April. There are lots of shops and eateries at the top of the mountain. We were hoping for a pastoral, hiking trip and found a thriving commercial venture on top of a mountain.

Doddabetta is the highest mountain in the Nilgiri Mountains at 2,637 metres (8,652 feet). There is a reserved forest area around the peak. It is 9 km from Ooty, on the Ooty-Kotagiri Road in the Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu, India. It is a popular tourist attraction with road access to the summit. It is the fourth highest peak in South India next to Anamudi, Mannamalai and Meesapulimala. The peaks Hecuba (2375 m), Kattadadu (2418 m) and Kulkudi (2439 m) are the three closely linked summits in the west of the Doddabetta range near to Udagamandalam. The word Doddabetta is derived from Kannada language meaning big hill.

I went there only to visit the summit, this is the highest point. Nobody else seemed to care about this. Many hundred visitors, foig and no views. The summit is close to
some antennas, you may have to cross an old fence, but no need to cross the newer, high fence around the antennas.

Amazing view with chilly winds. Organic stalls, Aavin stall etc. Telescope view from top is wonderful. A must to watch

We recently visited Doddabetta hill top in April 23 during our Ooty tour.Highest hill top point in Ooty. Ever remains cool and foggy.One can enjoy cool drizzling weather especially in summers.Good place to visit and have beautiful view of Ooty all around from a hill top. The telescope installed for visiting tourists was not working. Food quality available in restaurants is average.The main road near hill top is full of local vendors selling local fruits/ vegetables (Pink carrots and red round radishes) Boiled corn / pea nuts and fast food.One must visit the place during Ooty tour.

It is great to get up high and see the area. There were big crowds on a Monday 9am in March. There are lots of shops and eateries at the top of the mountain. We were hoping for a pastoral, hiking trip and found a thriving commercial venture on top of a mountain. We wanted to be in nature and were disappointed.

Good place to visit with nice eateries, street food, clean toilets, 100 meter walking to be done to reach the place. Place shows various view points from the peak using telescope. Telescopes were closed due to maintenance when we visited. This peak is one of the highest peaks in South India so must visit.Do carry a jacket for kids as it gets a bit cold.

Can i take my own car and drive from mysore to ooty? Is so what are the requirements? Is it suggested?

Yes. No requirements whatsoever. Fill your tank as there are no petrol bunks once you enter Bandipur forest till you reach Ooty.
How to travel from city center? Also, how is the public transport to visit nearby places in ooty

to visit doddabetta there are public transport. but dont rely on those because they might drop you 2-3 km away from the peak.
take an auto or you have to enquire with your hotel.
can we go to doddabetta by bus

Yes.. I found Mini buses.. it is more comfortable in car than bus as roads are curvy and narrow.

The difficulty is only in the rainy season or during winters when there is lot of mist and clouds making the road invisible though u can move on with fog lights.I was born and brought up there in Coonoor there are other beautiful places in and around ooty like the wen-lock downs, gymkhana club in coonoor-- lambs rock and dolphins nose view points. There is a hill you can see on the left hand side very prominently when you climb the road up from Mettupalayam to coonoor called as PAKASURAN MALAI where supposedly Tipu Sultan had a tunnel built underground from mysore to escape the Britishers. Ask me more about Nilgiris will be happy to reply ...

There is public transport but you have to get down at particular place and take a jeep. As this place is on steep hill. As far food is concern there is no good hotel.
How many sights did they show in full day?
And at what rate?

Doddabetta Peak is an Individual sight. It depends on you How much time you covers for the sightseeing and roaming around.
Also maximum 4-5 sights can be covered in a day with complete enjoyment.
The rate chart differs according to vehicles and how many person.
