De passage à Sanur, c est LE seul.truc culturel. Et c est magnifique. Surtout d imaginer la.vie quotidienne dans une maison balinaise il y a 1 siècle. Les peintures sont belles mais en mauvais état.

Glimpses of a bygone era, beautiful artwork capturing Bali and also Italy, Tunisian, France and Belgium. Some need restoration.

the couple's residence dates back to the first half of the twentieth century. The wood paneling is wonderful, both the internal ones and those of the sculpted shutters. Original wardrobe and furniture, but unfortunately full of dust.
On the walls are 88 works by the painter Le Mayer, basically with one great muse, namely his wife. Unfortunately, these paintings are also poorly lit and placed under glass cases full of dust and with very dirty glass. The works displayed in the most illuminated points have now faded. the internal doors are all carved in wood and gilded and painted red. externally some facades are carved in stone. It's really a shame because it is one of the few authentic residences of any value left in Bali from that period. Recommended activity for fans, entry at an absolutely low price.

Sanur is a family resort and the museum is charming. You just have to imagine yourself in the life of an expatriate falling in love with a place, a woman, changing his life and his art.

The real purpose of our visit to this beach area was to visit the Le Mayeur Museum and view his works and collection of Balinese art and artefacts. One thing about Bali, the visitor seldom knows in advance if an attraction is closed for the day, even our driver was surprised as his grapevine had not given him any information. Disappointed, we headed back along the beach to enjoy some refreshments and to browse a few shops.

Interesting place to visit and read the history and see the artwork of Le Mayeur. It goes to show how times have changed as he would probably have been arrested now for painting a 15 year old girl topless! Everything is all a bit tired and the artworks are fading but worth a visit.

Amazing story about artist and his wife

Voici un peintre belge qui a choisi de venir vivre à Bali et d'épouser une danseuse balinaise. Le musée souffre d'un entretien insuffisant qui nuit surtout aux peintures. Celles qui sont exposées sont intéressantes, post impressionnistes, et sont surtout un hymne à la beauté des femmes balinaises ; malheureusement, les couleurs ont souffert du climat tropical. Les pièces sont plutôt petites mais les boiseries sculptées sur tout la hauteur des murs sont d'une qualité remarquable (et très poussiéreuses) ; les portes de communication n'autorisent pas l'obésité tant elles sont étroites avec un seuil surélevé. Quant au jardin, il est très agréable. Une visite culturelle à ne pas manquer.

I first went to this museum about 30 years ago and I had really good memories of that visit, so I decided to return. I am so glad that I did - it is a really magical spot. You really get the "feeling" of the life of this artist - he had obviously travelled extensively and he chose to live on Sanur Beach! His work is stunningly beautiful. I would have love to have bought some prints. The museum is in what was his house, so it is quite small, with interconnected rooms. If you have any interest in art, do make the effort to visit this museum - you will find it a memorable experience.

Very interesting but some of the rooms were closed. The museum is small but interesting. Entrance is right off the beach . it only took us about 20 minutes to go through it.

at the north end of Sanur just past the Bali Beach Hotel
it is a lovely walk as the avenue is wide and tree shaded or you can ride a bike - my husband usually hires one for the month so rides everywhere but I like to walk
