Hi, My wife and I will be arriving Medan on the 16 May, and will staying in d' prmahotel. may I know the best transportation to Lake Toba and roughly the fares ? Thank you for the reply.
D Prima hotel is station hotel and expected all day noise from the train announcement. Make sure you bring earplugs. Other cheap option is to stay at Karibia Hotel just a few minutes walk from the station. The room rate is not too much difference with D Prima. The positive point of Karibia Hotel is next to Center Point Mall and plenty of eating place and the rooms are more quiet compared with D Prima.
Should I Buy a trainticket from the AirPort to the city center online in advance? Or can I Buy it when I arrive at the AirPort?
I don’t think it’s necessary to buy in advance, the tickets are easily enough to buy when you arrive in the airport. So far I’ve always buy when I arrive and never had any problems.
How do I travel from medan airport to Santuki hotel by train??
The airport of Medan is called Kualanamo (KNO) Airport located at a small town that goes with the same name, around 60 - 75 kilometers away from Medan, the capital city of North Sumatera province, I would argue. If your hotel (Santuki) is in Medan, the first thing you should do is take a train ride from the airport. The tickets are sold at the airport and will cost you exactly Rp.100.000, approximately US$ 7.50, one way. it takes around 45 minutes to get to Medan Railway Station. As soon as you alight from the train, order a metered taxi, BlueBird taxi is highly recomnendable, to go to your hotel no matter where it is located at in Medan. Use Google Map to get there, just in case the taxi driver doesn't know where it is at. It won't cost you that much, probably US$ 10 max if it is in or around town. If you're low in budget try the hotel at the train station, called D'primahotel Medan. It is descent, clean, cheap probably around US$ 25 per night, and it is centrally located. At the opposite side of the hotel you'll find the city garden, named Merdeka Square, where you can find local restaurants, yummy enough to satiate your palate. A few hundred meters more, you'll find a vibrant China Town with "Tjong A Fie" Chinese traditional house as its icon. If you're loaded enough, across the street from the train station, there is a five-star hotel, Aston Hotel, where all modern amenities can easily be found. Don't forget to visit as well the Sultan Deli Palace, an ancient royal palace, which Medanese are really proud of. Around 120 kilometers away from Medan, there is Lake Toba, a natural lake formed by volcano explosions. There are only 2 volcano lakes in the world, located respectively in Indonesia and Canada. When Toba Volcano exploded some 75.000 years ago, the world was covered by its dusts for years, changing the world' climate as we know it now. Please be aware, volcanoes don't die, they're only dormant. One day, Toba Volcano will be active again, like Krakatoa Volcano. If it explodes, it is predicted that around 75% world's population will perish. So go and visit Lake Toba, before its volcano exploding for one more time.
