My boyfriend and I had 5 lessons with Kimen Surf during our stay in Kuta. Our instructors were brilliant and always had our personal level of surfing in mind to make sure we got the most out of our lessons. The manager was very kind and took great pictures of us. Would definitely recommend this place for all beginners!

We have been surfing with Kimen for two days during our stay in Kuta. Very positive experience, the Kimen crew is super friendly and it is great fun to spend time with them!

They were recommended to us by other travelers as well as the lonely planet. Got picked up at 8, went to Selong Belanak in their van with 3 others. A uv shirt was provided for those that didn't have one. As the waves were quit strong in the middle of the beach, the lesson took place on the side were the waves were better suitable for beginners. There was a teacher for each student and they gave good instructions. There was water after the class and we were dropped back again at the hotel. Nice energy, good teachers, fun morning at the beach!

Min kæreste og jeg havde 2 dages surf på Selong Belanak med Kimen Surf. Første dag gik fint med gode og nemme bølger. Man fik ikke mange instruktioner eller hjælp til hvad man kunne gøre bedre. Næste dag var bølgerne meget voldsommere og der tog guiderne os bare med ud et sted der slet ikke var for begyndere. Så vi blev tæsket ned af bølger i 1 time før de erkendte at vi skulle finde et sted med mindre bølger. Igen lærte de ikke meget fra sig og var ikke specielt inspirerende.

My girlfriend and I surfed with Kimen for four days. The lessons and instructions from our teacher, Chenk, was incredibly good. We did a beginners course and went surfing at a reef spot some of the days. It was challenging and fun for both of us.
They arrived at time all of the days, and rescheduled some appointments due to the tide so we would get bigger waves or getting to the spots when most of the surf schools go back out of the water.
They also gave a lot of general tips of the Kuta area, so we got some good guiding when driving to the surf.
I would recommend going with Kimen to all my friends, if they need a surf lesson or a guide to one of the spots in the area.
Kimen seem like a small local surf shop, and do not charge as much as the more expensive surf-camps that you find online, that operates in Kuta.

Lonely planet recommends this surf school and I completely agree! Really professional, patient and still fun and pushing us. We both progressed hugely in our 2 days of lessons and surfed our fiest reef :) would recommend these for beginners or intermediate surfers looking to advance quicker

The guys at Kimen were so fun. Great teachers and full of energy. Not a bad price at all and for an extra 100,000 they can get you really high quality photos of your day. Highly recommend!

Kimen came highly recommended from friends who have surfed Kuta for years. They sorted out my 12 year old daughter perfectly and she had a fantastic first surfing experience.

I took my first two surf lessons ever with Kimen Surf. Both times they picked me up right on time at my accommodation. Everything was included in the price for the surf lesson: a shirt, board rental, transportation, parking fee, private teacher, water and a snack. We went to Selong Belanak Beach, a fun spot for beginners.
My teacher (Saban) was a really nice and professional guy. I would definitely recommend booking a surf lesson through Kimen Surf.

this was our 2nd time using this surf guide company for a trip to Garupuk. 1st time most things went reasonably well. this trip was sooo not the same. met at the shop - all good. loaded boards onto car - all good. looked like lots of the groms were coming along - not a big problem. thought the driver must be the adult guide. we get to Gerupuk and the driver stays with the car - OK - another Indonesian adult jumps on the boat - OK. the boat motor cuts out less than 5 minutes into the trip. boatman gets it going. it cuts out again 2 minutes later. after the 3rd motor cut out we suggest that maybe we should head back and get a different boat - like one that works. No, no, no - it will all be OK. few more motor cut outs. then another fishing boat takes pity on us and tows us to outside break. all the groms hop off to surf as does the Indonesian 'guide'. 5 anglo surfers get in the water. i stay with the boat. the boatman 'fixes' the engine - we wait. indonesian guide catches different boat back before surfers and groms get out. we think - hmmm, maybe he is going to organise another boat to get us back to village because this one has so many problems. No. we take off on dodgy boat - 6 anglos and 4 groms and the boatman. boat motor breaks down about 1 1/2 minutes into the trip. goes then stops, goes then stops about 10 times. after being stranded in the bay, broken down with spurts of the engine occasionally another boat stops to help get engine going. goes for 2 minutes breaks down and nothing is getting it going. stranded in the bay for more than 1 hour trying to do the 10 minute trip back. eventually another boat comes along and we ask the boatman if he can take us back. we all arrive safe and sound but cold, wet and a little pissed off. we understand that motors can break down BUT if you have paid for a trip (and as we paid per person it wasn't a cheap trip) then you actually expect that you will have someone who can organise it semi efficiently. the adult indonesian guide who came on the boat made no attempt to get us help. the groms had absolutely no idea what to do (as you would expect) and were getting a bit frightened when the boat couldn't get going. felt sorry for the boatman but when you are paying for the trip you expect reasonable equipment. we defs had the WORST boat at the break. so if you want to surf Garupuk with a surf company - look for one of the others around Kuta - don't go with Kimen
