Didn’t go inside the egg but just took a look from the outside. It looks better in person than in photos. The architecture and surrounding area is interesting but from photos one might think it’s not worth noting.

Visited The Egg for a concert. With interesting architecture there are apparently many venues inside. The staff were all very helpful in assuring concert goers got to the correct room. There were no bad seats in this intimate venue; seats are comfortable with ample legroom. The entire complex is a bit of a maze and we, along with others, wandered around a bit trying to find the correct exit and parking.

If you ever find yourself in New York State, in the city of Albany, take a walk to the Rockefeller Empire State Plaza. There you will find The Egg Theatre – a center for the performing arts. The Egg’s design is the very definition of brutalist architecture. The Egg is a performing arts center dedicated to providing Capital Region audiences with the best arts offerings and providing a showcase for NYS artists.
The Egg’s two curved theaters offer excellent acoustics and a naturally intimate atmosphere, making it a favorite for audiences and performers alike. Even if you don't have time to catch a show while in town, take a moment to appreciate the building's unique architecture (that’s what I did).
It is not just a crucial part of the Albany skyline, it’s a vital part of the city's thriving arts and entertainment scene.

Curiosity led us to walk over to the Egg while we were staying downtown Albany on June 3, 2024. At ground level we were able to walk right in. On the main floor there was a convention of some kind setting up. the actual "egg" was above us. None of the elevators worked on this level. the escalators were shut down. We walked up the dead escalator and wanted to see inside the Egg, the doors to it were locked. The doors to the plaza outside were also locked. Now on the second level we tried to take the elevator up, now it worked but only went down. No information on a schedule for events and no one around to ask questions of. A very disappointing visit.

I didn’t get to go in. The outside is a nice place for a walk or sit to read. I see people there exercising. The museum is nearby and the parks is a great place for people watching.

This is a perfect place to see live music! We saw Samantha Fish, River Kittens and Devon Allman (son of Greg), all for about $40, and had terrific seats.

This place is a literal maze. If you have never been here before, expect to drive in circles a couple of times. The parking is a sh#$ show and then it's another game trying to find the spot you are heading to. ALL of that said, the acoustics were GREAT in the small theater.

We really were excited about seeing Kenny Wayne Shepherd at the Egg. We have seen other blues bands there and love the intimate nature of the venue. I like to dance and stand up during a show . We asked if we could leave our seats and stand up on the back of the theatre . While we were enjoying the show another couple made conversation about a particular song selection that was being played.. Shortly after a brief exchange between us we were approached by an usher who asked if we had seats, then he told me we were shouting during the concert. . I felt harassed in the sense that at a rock /blues show it is not uncommon to express appreciation by hooting etc. I understand that the ushers have a big job keeping track of who is keeping a mask on but the attempt to squash fun and exuberance is the antithesis of the spirit of musical appreciation.

Very Very small venue. If you want a beer you will wait in line over 30 minutes, if you have to go to bathroom you will wait over 20 minutes . You also can't drink the beer in the venue. Way not worth it

Not knowing what to expect, we decided to catch a show at the Egg. What a pleasant surprise. We were in the smaller of the two theaters - maybe about 500 seats. Great acoustics and not a bad seat in the house. Very intimate concert setting. A bonus is the on site parking which is only $5.00. It’s in the same building as the concert halls and the elevator from the garage takes you right to the lobby of the theater. (Take the exit for the concert venue and the “visitors garage” is right there) Overall great experience.

Besides the Renaissance Albany( on State Street) as they are full for the date we need in January What would be the closest hotel to the Egg in Albany?

Hilton at 40 Lodge Street (essentially at State Street too). 5 Minute walk. Ask doorman for directions and you will be there in a jiffy...3 minutes if the crosswalk lights go your way. This is the second best option. Good luck and enjoy.
