If you feel like walking and canoeing in unspoilt nature, I can highly recommend a trip to Lake Duluti. This small but deep crater lake captivated me not only by its tranquility but also by its surrounding forests full of secrets and surprises.
First, we were guided around the lake by Dickson, our very knowledgeable guide. Ask for plants, birds, reptiles, he could name them and give any interesting information. By imitating the sounds of animals he even lured them out from their hidden spaces and we could watch monkeys, rare birds and more. We enjoyed the walk through impressive nature, the long lianos temted us to try their strenghth and the crocodile tail climbers seemed like weapons from a forelorn world.
Just in time to watch a golden sunset we started our boat tour and while gliding along magical vegitation, we were listening to the sounds of nature.
I didn't enjoy this natural gem for the first time and would not hesitate to come again and again.

It was an amazing trip to the Lake Duluti. We already came to an end to our 16 days Tanzanian safari on 14/08/2023. Our friend and expert guide Samwel William Mbise suggested us to visit Lake Duluti on the last day. It was another amazing and exciting day. We hired a big boat @50 USD for three people and toured the lake. It was like boating in Amazon wetlands. Saw so many birds and reptiles. Don't worry,there is no crocodiles in the lake. It was an okay trip. The lake is interesting. The guides were informative. Unfortunately I did not see as many birds as I had hoped to see. We did not do the walk, we were pretty much done after the boat ride.
For all those who are confused about pricing, its TZS 10,000 for the boat ride and TZS 10,000 for the guide (at least for Tanzanians, though it should not be soo much more for foreigners). This price however is only available at the government side of the lake, not the private restaurants or private campsites.

My husband and I did a canoe tour of the lake two years ago. I loved it so much that I went back the next morning with the same guide and did a walk around the lake. The lake itself is not the prettiest, what made the canoe ride so fantastic and memorable is the amazingly rich eco system one gets to witness. For anyone who loves birds, plants, reptiles the lake is worth visiting. The difference is the canoe ride was done through a safari company and we were charged I believe around US$100-$150 for the two-hour canoe ride. I made the arrangement with the wonderful and knowledgeable canoe guide Hussein directly for the walk, and he charged me $25 for the morning walk, which was so much cheaper than what the safari company charged.
When I returned to Arusha this July I decided to do the canoe ride again. I contacted Hussein and he still charged $25 per person for a two-hour canoe ride. It was again fantastic. I would recommend doing the ride early in the morning or later in the afternoon when birds are around. You would not see as many birds in the middle of the day.
Hussein is really knowledgeable. He knew all the answers to my questions. You can find him on WhatsApp using his phone number (+255 759 169 879)

The lake and restaurants are pretty but I had a terrible experience with the restaurants lying to me about entrance fees. They will look at you and make up a price out of the blue. I was told 15, 13 and 10 USD entrance fees for tourists.
We came into the first restaurant to talk about the prices of boat hire, and we spoke for 10 minutes. After that they wanted to charge us entrance fee to the restaurant! Anyhow they said 100K for a boat for 2 tourists and 2 locals. Eventually they brought the price down to 70, but we went to the second restaurant to negotiate. Eventually we hired from the final 3rd restaurant and seemingly actual boat place for 60K. I think we still overpaid for all of us. The government entrance fee you pay to the restaurants, and I imagine they just pocket it.

It is a great fun visiting Lake Duluti. Canoeing at an affordable rate. Once you're done canoeing, please walk around the lake as you take photos.

Lake Duluti is a nice lake though not special. What made the walk special was our guide Dickson. He vividly told us all about the animals and plants and answered all our questions. He really took the time and his English is very good. So if you are going to lake Duluti, I would ask for Dickson to be your guide.

Our afternoon outing to Lake Duluti was better than expected! The activity was arranged through our hotel, Rivertrees Country Inn. We were shuttled to a small canoe rental place at the lake where the equipment was a little rougher than our own canoes that we paddle at home. Our guides, Freddie and Naomi, were quite happy to do all the paddling although being paddlers ourselves we couldn’t just sit in the bow! We were pleasantly surprised by the abundance of bird and reptile life in the crater lake. Our guides were quite knowledgeable and happy to share their wildlife and plant knowledge! We saw many kinds of Kingfishers, including Malachites, cormorants, herons and monitor lizards. It was a delightful and relaxing way to pass the afternoon before departing the next morning for Safari.

Very Good place to Enjoy with friends, it's Realy Good For sure Because does not brings only canoeing, but also other activities like Bird Watching, biking, hiking, Foods and beverages, Pub and so on. Keep it up Service men!

The lake is beautiful. The restaurant is horrible.The food is bad and expensive. Service is also verry bad. Toilets are dirty and smelly. I wouldn't recommend it!!!
