If you are in to wildlife then this is an experience not to be missed. Wonderful scenery and great views of the hillside caves. The experience made so much better by watching the incredible emergence of Wrinkle-lipped Free-tailed Bats, literally millions of them! Must see!

Was so so. Pretty cool to see thousands upon thousands of bats exit the cave, but:
1. There is a big cave hole facing the viewing platform. However the bats exit the cave via another entrance on the other side of the mountain
2. The bats are quite far away.
Top tips:
a. Look up the time of sunset. The bats will exit at sunset, so be there about 20 minutes before hand.
b. The viewing platform is on private land. It NOW costs 50 baht per adult (kids free).
c. The viewing platform fits about 50 people in 3 rows, but was empty except for me when I visited.
d. It's about 15 mins drive from Cha am. So pay a taxi to take you there and then take you back upon completion.

This is one of the coolest things to do/see in Cha-am / Hua Hin. It definitely requires a car or a hired driver to get to it.
CRITICAL: The bats fly out at sunset. That means sometime between 5:30pm-6:30pm, depending on the time of the year. No need to get there more than 5 minutes before sunset. It takes about 15 minutes for all of the 1-2M bats to exit.
Be *sure* to watch for the Hawks who lay in wait and in the first few minutes of the exodus will dive bomb the bats to get their dinner.
There is a donation box...give them 50 baht/person.
If you get there early, feed the fish in the pool below the watching stand (20 baht/bag of feed). There were a couple albino carp swimming among the many normal/gray carp.

The best nature experience of three weeks in Thailand. We have been to Cha Am numerous times, never knew what we missed. Very much recommended!

ถ้ำค้างคาว ที่นายาง ชะอำ ไม่ได้มีแค่ค้างคาว ไปคราวนี่โชคดีเจอแพะภูเขาด้วย เด็กๆชอบมาก แนะนำใครสนใจควรไปก่อน 6โมงเย็นเพราะค้างคาวจะออกช่วง 6 โมงกว่า

Arranged for a private taxi to bring myself and a friend here. The published time to be here was 5:30pm when in fact the bats don’t evacuate the caves until 6:30pm; so we arrived here an hour early which was annoying but our amazing host kept us entertained. When I expressed my desire to pickup some “refreshments” to pass the time while we waited for dusk he generously offered me a ride to the store to get what I needed. Our host has assembled a riser with benches facing the caves on multiple levels. I believe there is a first come first served 30 person limit on viewing. A large van arrived with several viewers around 6:00pm. There is not set fee to view the bats but there is a donation box in clear view. It’s unfortunate that viewers here tend to be blind to the box. You’re on someone’s property using his display area he took the time to assemble. The least you could do is throw a few bucks his way.
When the bats finally left the cave it was amazing the shear number in the millions as they exited in an organized line. It was amazing and well worth the taxi ride and the wait. Highly recommend.

Very interesting walk inside the cave where you will find some buddhist statues and such like. We missed the bats though, probably went to early we were told.

Leuk om gezien te hebben! Is toch een bijzonder iets.. Eén tip.. Kijk het vanaf de weg! Prima zicht. Er is een soort verhoging waar je vanaf kunt kijken maar daar moet je betalen.. Jammer want nogmaals vanaf de weg kan je het gewoon zien!

Went there twice as I missed the bats on the first visit. Both ocassions, there was a man there waiting to collecting money from visitors. I was there on weekends (Sat & Sun), so I suspect the reviewer who did not meet anyone to collect money went on a weekday.
Do recommend if you have not seen this in real life before, pretty amazing to see so many bats flying together.

We got there through a local Grab driver whom we booked to drive us around Hua Hin and Cha-Am for 8 hours. Very easy to get there through Google map, look out for the home-made "bats observation" signage outside this house with a small parking pouch.
Get on the viewing deck for best views (not wheelchair accessible) and be there early. The bats started coming out and form beauitful long stream towards the same direction for almost 10 mins. The rest comes out scattered outside the cave area thereafter, hence come early to catch this spectacular sight. We were there 45mins earlier.
I reckon the house owner built this deck and will be collecting 20 baht per person to use the viewing deck, but there was no one around nor collection tin.
