Yes your son can drive alone, the guide will give him some tuition if necessary. We collect from all hotels in downtown Chiang Rai, sometimes from other places in the province if we have time. Occasionally customers mistake the province name of Chiang Rai for the town and book somewhere very isolated, we'd recommend you be careful, generally the postcode 57000 is in the downtown area.

The half day has limited time in the hill tribe but majors on going to the Waterfall, which is the best in the province and inaccessible for tour buses. If the half day is a morning session there is a sandwich lunch instead of the cooked traditional lunch, but it's still at my home on the mountain top with the inifinity pool and 20km views towards Burma. There is swimming there and also at the waterfall. Often we can only do the half day with a 12 noon pickup and lunch included, because if we have guests doing the full day, we can't risk them having to wait around or we risk not getting that coveted 5-bubble review ;-) On the full day adventure, the afternoon is reserved for the waterfall when it's warmest and at it's best for swimming. The full day is much more relaxed and spends more time in the Hill Tribe, our guide usually offers a choice of activities in the morning session too. We know we're not a cheap attraction and it can be a push to afford the full day, but we do recommend it if you can fit it in your budget. Both adventures get the toasted marshmallows at the waterfall and the souvenir hand carved bamboo mugs with hot coffee/chocolate served in them at the waterfall.
