Museum converted 16th century reinnovated fort , proudly stood at banks of RAK Beach, well sustained 1745, 1819 couple of pirate & British attacks but not ruined much.
Till 1964 His Highness RAK ruler stayed here after that till 1983, premises Infrastructure supported for police station, prison, record room etc.
Before museum this establishment will be called as multiple names like Eatly port, Late port, Al Hisn fort etc.
Appreciating RAK governance and one archeological expert Dr. Jayant Lakshman who converted this mile stone building as museum with huge investment by accomidating all artifacts & antiques in a nice presentable manner.
All tourists must thank to Merchel Schenkel an antiques collector who donated so many items as well Ecology group of Dubai too supported with their enumerous collection along with city residents & Queasim family.
This museums certain special exhibits are
1. Mardhouf Alquwasim ( a coin),
2. Weaponry,
3. 18th century date syrup process lay out,
4. Traditional wooden boats,
5. Moses son David's inscription gravestone ( ORIGINAL),
6. Tamra exhibits ( palm tree 🌴 related),
7. Siver Jewellry ( Especially heavy weight ankles how at that time used ware with fondness),
8. Ethnographic section,
9. Natural history section,
10. Watch towers.
Must see place in RAK and kudos to admn for well maintenance & guide facility
Don't forget to visit gift shop cum souvineer room.
Suggesting mgmt to enable card payment facility too.
Finally comfortable, hygiene & well maintained wash rooms also part of this glorious tourist site.

Spent 3 days in RAK and had a chance to visit the museum. Entrance fee was 5 AED and an extra 20AED (if I remember it right) if you want to do the clay pot. Interesting things on display as many others have said. This fort turned museum should not be missed when visiting RAK for the first time.

Leuk museum om te bezoeken. Wij hadden het geluk dat een aardige man die daar werkzaam is, ons gratis heeft rondgeleid. Anders waren we veel sneller uitgekeken. Ik heb geen idee of er altijd een gids beschikbaar is.

From start to finish, this is a truly unique and special experience and a fantastic introduction to the culture and heritage of Ras Al Khaimah (or should we say Julfar!).
Housed in the original Old Fort of Ras Al Khaimah, it was also the residence of the Royal Family until the 1960s - giving you a unique insight into various facets of life in the Emirate.
Our favourite room housed traditional Emirati jewellery, each piece was impressive but what made this exhibition stand out was the personal stories of the people who had gifted these pieces to the museum to share with us all.
Thank you to our lovely local Emirati guide for sharing the history and heritage of Ras Al Khaimah with us, it’s a memory we will treasure.

Fascinating small, local museum in a fort that used to serve as the residence of the rulers. Lots of historical artifacts and details. The local guide was very knowledgeable and pleasant. I am glad that this museum was on my RAK tour.

Absolut zu empfehlen, sehr günstig im Eintrittspreis, es gibt nicht all zu viele Exponate zu sehen, doch der Service vom Personal war einmalig und absolut zu empfehlen. Der Mitarbeiter an der Kasse erklärte uns viel, beantwortetet viele viele unserer Fragen, spricht sehr gut Englisch, auf jeden Fall mit auf die Liste nehmen und mit dem RAK Taxi (ist günstiger) hinfahren lassen.

המוזאון נמצא באזור העתיק של העיר ראס אל ח׳ימה, חזיתו אפרורית ולא כל כך מזמינה, אך תוכו מלא כרימון . נתקלתי במדריכה מאוד נעימה וידענית, שהוביל אותי במבוכי המצודה והראתה לי את המקומות הנסתרים וסיפרה על ההסטוריה של המקום, הוסיפה המון מדברים למדה במהלך הזמן ההפתעה הגדולה נמצאת דווקה במקומות בהם היא לא ליוותה אותי, בחלק הארכאולוגי של המבצר, ולי כיהודי היתה הפתעה עצומה, במקום מצבה מבזלת שנמצאה באחד הכפרים ועליו חקוקות בעברית שמו של האיש ולזיכרו, מאין הגיע האיש? מה הוא עשה במקום הזה לפני כ 400 לשנה ?
במוזאון חלקים סגורים שלדעתי הם המעניינים, וזאת בתענה שנעשים במקום שיפוצים וכן רואים את עבודות השיפוץ שנמשכות כבר זמן רב מאוד, וחבל, ממש חבל, האתר בסך הכל שלו מעניין מאוד ומיוחד.כדאי מאוד לבקר ולהתרשם ולא לוותר על המדריכה שהיא מאוד טובה.
במוזאון חלקים סגורים שלדעתי הם המעניינים, וזאת בתענה שנעשים במקום שיפוצים וכן רואים את עבודות השיפוץ שנמשכות כבר זמן רב מאוד, וחבל, ממש חבל, האתר בסך הכל שלו מעניין מאוד ומיוחד.כדאי מאוד לבקר ולהתרשם ולא לוותר על המדריכה שהיא מאוד טובה.

Ein grosses Museum mit vielen Schaustücken aus der vergangen Zeit. Dieser Besuch kann gut über den Mittag gemacht werden, denn es ist angenehm beschattet oder gar gekühlt.

It was well worth a visit despite the heat. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Most of the exhibit areas were air conditioned, a relief as the outside temperature was 40+C.

Is the museum accessible with a walking frame? So can one who cannot go stairs visit the museum?

It depends on the physical ability of the person. You have to be able to step up and over door frames and frames are a bit narrow and short. Most rooms are on main floor, wind tower is on 1st floor so they wouldn’t be able to go there.
