Vanuit Hoi An met Active Adventures een tour gedaan naar de Co Tu mensen een stuk landinwaards. Prima begeleiding door een Australier en een buitengewoon bekwame chauffeur die geen onnodige risico's neem onderweg. Alle tijd om de dingen te bekijken die ik wilde. Goed te zien dat met de tour Active Adventures de Co Tu gemeenschap daadwerkelijk helpt.

We signed up for a visit to Bho Hoong Bungalows with Action Adventures in May 2015. Our guide was an Englishman, HawkMoon, and he was complemented by our local chef, hunter-gatherer, and fixer at the bungalows. Hawk and the Action Adventures immediately showed their willingness to customize our trip when, due to illness, we opted last minute for an A/C vehicle rather than a jeep. They were always solution-oriented, and Hawk somehow was able to put up with 2 best friends who were bickering for half the time! He also managed to educate both of us and entertain each of us based on our different interests. His positive, can-do attitude, local knowledge and ability to put people at ease in a strange land were outstanding. We loved living in a local village in Bho Hoong and got to know the villagers thru meals, music, archery, rice wine(!), and jungle hikes. The Co Tu tribe in Bho Hoong have an important place in history and brought some of the most valiant fighters to the Viet Cong -- we met some of them who are now in their 60s/70s/80s. As an American, I thought this would be awkward, but it was not - these guys weren't political - they were just representing their tribe to save their land. It was through these personal interactions some 40 years later, that help our generation get closer to present day Vietnam.
I found the bungalows to be spacious, comfortable and 'connected' to the village. I was very pleased. A simple ceiling fan and a breeze was perfectly fine in the evenings.
En route to and from the village, we stopped at historical sites and Hawk was well equipped to explain the history and importance of each place.
I would highly recommend Action Adventures and the Bho Hoong trip if you are willing to step out of your comfort zone and get close to a local tribe, while exploring the bounty of central Vietnam.

We loved our day in the back of a Jeep, on the Higher than Hai Van tour. Lee was a fantastic guide and the day was well organised! Can't wait to come back to Vietnam and do another tour!
