It is said to be the ruins of the castle town of the Asakura clan that ruled Echizen during the Sengoku period. Surprisingly, a lot of Chinese porcelain has been unearthed as evidence of trade with China in the Ichijo Valley, 30 km upstream of the Kuzuryu River, which has its mouth in the Sea of Japan, before the Edo period. It was a place to feel the culture.

The ruins of the castle town where the Asakura clan reigned after being overthrown by Oda Nobunaga. Especially, this site is the site of the building where Ashikaga Yoshiaki, who later became the 15th Muromachi bakufu shogun, was born and the residence of the five generations of the Asakura clan. Although there is no building, the foundation stone and the stone structure of the garden remain, and it is a place that reminds us of the financial and cultural power of the Asakura clan at that time.

Interesting to see area to see how the people lived years ago. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes. The area is quite spacious to walk around.

The remains of Ichijodani, where Yoshikage Asakura was at the height of his glory, have been excavated, and excavation is still ongoing.
We arrived at the restored streetscape in about 25 minutes by bus from Fukui Station, and spent an hour touring the ruins with a guide. After the fall of Odani Castle, Yoshikage Asakura lost the Battle of Ichijodani, and the Asakura clan was destroyed by the betrayal of his allies. After that, the center of Echizen moved to Fukui City, and Ichijodani was left abandoned as farmland.
Excavation began in 1967, and the remains of the Asakura clan were discovered one after another, and 2,343 of the excavated items have been designated as important cultural properties.
In the countryside in the mountains, the remains of the Asakura clan and the restored streetscape suddenly appear. If you are interested in history, please come and visit.
The guide will guide you at the scheduled time from the south entrance of the restored streetscape without a reservation. Please check the website. However, there were not many buses on the Keifuku Bus and JR Etsumi-Hoku Line, so we were not able to stop by the Ichijodani Asakura Clan Ruins Museum.

I thought that the Ichijodani ruins, which was the castle town of the Asakura clan, which represents the Sengoku period warlord Yoshikage Asakura, was a facility that was sufficient to remind us of what it was like back then.

How do I get there from Fukui station and is there more than 1 t win station in Fukui. If so, which is the closest and its name. Thank you.

I just went thru the brochures I brought back from Fukui and find that my previous response was inaccurate if you don't mind a long walk. From Fukui Station take the JR Etsumi-Hoku Line, get off at Ichijodani Station, and walk east. There is apparently a walking trail that will take you thru the park. There is a history museum about 3 minutes from the station. Nothing there is in English but there is a great diorama that shows where everything is within the valley. Admission to the museum is 100 yen or 230 yen for a joint ticket with the restored townscape. There is also the bus (not sure where from): the Ichijodani-Asakura Express Bus or Keifuku Bus (55 or 62 Route); get off at Asakura Shiryokan bus stop.
There is a tourist information center right outside the west (main) exit of Fukui Station. English is spoken there. They can provide you with more specific information.
