Japanese-style entrance, wide open-air bath, not-so-wide sauna, a bit of good shampoo, a place to rest for hours with plenty of manga, no free shuttle bus. It is slightly cheaper at Hakone Navi and Asoview. But it's a pity that the museum closes at 20:00.

A real gem off the beaten track.
We had 2 hours in a private onsen room looking out over the forest. Towels were included and we paid for robes to wear. The staff are friendly.
The onsen itself was beautiful with an inside sitting area. The water is very hot so it's good to be able to take a short break, there is a shower to clean yourself before going into the water. There is a public onsen area which is cheaper to access. There are toilets and a smoking area with a vending machine or you can go to the on site restaurant. If your hotel doesn't have an onsen I would recommend this place
We took the free shuttle bus up to the spa which I would recommend.

I highly suggest this onsen if you are in Hakone. First, they provide a free shuttle from the train station and back approximately every 15 min. This makes it so easy to go here. The facilities are great. The atmosphere is serene and relaxing. The bathing products you use to prior to going in and after smell great. We purchased the big towel and used that during our time there so we could use it once we showered to leave (we were able to take it home with us). In the women's section there are blow dryers, lotion etc to use. Pay attention the the times at the sauna entrance. There is an attendant that comes at those times and performs a service where they pour scented liquid over the coals and fan you. It's great and then a cool dip after makes it so invigorating. The only thing I didn't like is that there is a lot of hair on the floor in the locker room since the women there are drying and brushing their hair. It would be nice if someone was sweeping it up. I would recommend showering outside once you are done because it's so nice. Such an amazing experience!

I visited today (2/5). Due to the snowfall, the facility closed at 3 p.m. and I arrived around 12:30 p.m., so I didn't have much time, but the food was delicious and the hot spring was almost all to ourselves (we were the only ones there for the last hour or so). It was a very luxurious experience. Also, Mr. Mutsumura (a young man) was very considerate, informing us of the closing time and shuttle bus time, and draining hot water to make a path to the open-air bath to prevent sleet from accumulating on the path and hurting our feet. Even though we were the only ones there, he asked if we wanted to do the loyly, and when I returned because I forgot to take the key to my shoe locker, he called out to me again to be careful. Although it was a short stay in Japan for me living abroad, I was truly moved by the wonderful service of Japan. The snow-viewing bath was also a very precious and wonderful memory. I would definitely like to go again. I highly recommend it to everyone!

we had an incredible visit here. we reserved a private onsen. the price is so affordable considering it’s a private onsen for 2 hours. we felt so relaxed during our visit. hakone is a beautiful stop and hakone yuryo is the cherry on top!

I used the large public bath by myself.
It was a relatively quiet day, so I was able to relax in the bath.
However, when I got out of the bath and was drying my body... I was drying my hair with a hair dryer in the corner of the washroom... one of the four washbasins, a staff member started cleaning right next to me... It would have been one thing if it was dirty there... but it was as if they were telling me to get out of the way. And as they cleaned the washbasins in order, they moved away from me... so they should have started cleaning from the farthest away from me...
And they were calling out to other customers (who were resting on the bench) saying, "Please move to another place because we want to clean." I thought, "What?!"
The facilities and hot water are good, but this facility seems to be a facility that charters the staff's operations. It has gotten much worse than it was at "Hime Sharano Yu."

First time visiting an onsen and it was great - highly recommend. We took the romancecar to get to Hakone-Yumoto station - it's about 1.5hrs and easy to book. From the station there's a bus that takes you directly to the onsen in less than 5 minutes. We used the public baths, seems like a lot of other review were for the private options. We bought a small bath towel for ~$5 but I'd recommend just brining one from your hotel. Once signed in, you drop off your shoes in a locker, they give you a key and free to store, then go get naked in the change room - lockers there are free as well. The bath are nice and relaxing - stones and concrete that look off at the mountain and trees (no Fuji views). We were there around 12pm on a Thursday and there was about 12 people in total. So maybe 1-2 people in each pool. Definitely didn't feel crowded. There's a sauna as well that's outside with the baths that you can pop into. Once you're done, easy to get ready and take the shuttle back to the train - the shuttle runs every 15min (or check the schedule). We were able to just catch the next romancecar back - maybe waited 20 min. Super easy day trip from Tokyo to experience an onsen.

Last November, my family and I went to Hakone in the fall. I received this ticket as an invitation from a former company associate, so I am very grateful. It was autumn, so the weather was perfect for enjoying the autumn leaves. We also watched the joyful news of the FIFA World Cup victory on the TV in the sauna.

貸切露天岩風呂『薔薇』を利用しました。
最低2時間からの予約でも目一杯に時間を使いもう少し入りたかった感じがあったくらい。
ただ、泉質は単純塩泉との事でしたがウチの地元のスーパー銭湯と変わりはなかった。
でも考えてみれば…
湯治ではないので日常生活からの逃避には十二分で心も身体もリフレッシュする事は間違いなく、家では味わえない爽快感と解放感があった。
贅沢と言えば、少し値段が高すぎる事がたまに傷
かつ
個室でも板の間&座卓では大の字で休めない。
きっとそれは想定してないかもしれませんが１風呂１万円はかなり贅沢な感じ。
総体的に言えば…

サービスも◎
ただ、貸切は一回で十分かもしれません。

Can we book a privat room as a couple and do we need to be married? I don’t understand there guideline on the website: „Due to privacy concerns, we do not accept reservations for non-family members of the opposite sex sharing a private room.“

It's very hot (40 Celsius at least to be an onsen I think). We also had to take cold showers in between to last. Even your face sweats. I wouldn't do it pregnant.

FYI, you can't even use a private onsen if you have a tattoo. I enquired by email and they responded within hours to confirm.

If you book a private onsen no one sees you and no one will know about the tattoo. I just did it and had no problem. Sure at the check-in they ask if you have got one but you can just say "no".

If you are doing it for overseas, it may be difficult to do it online, when I went, I rocked up really early, (opening time) and managed to book whichever private bath I wanted, and a massage.
But booking a room maybe be more challenging if you don’t plan ahead.

We arrived early morning (opening time)
And got a private bath straight away, although... I’ve heard if you arrive midday or later in the day, you won’t find one available.
The less expensive rooms will probably be unavailable, but the more expensive rooms (which we hired) may be more readily available. We attend on a Saturday. It was also raining. I guess weather could be a factor...
be safe, if you really want to get a room go early or book in advance.
