We took the Sunflower Kurenai to travel from Osaka to Beppu. The ship is very pretty, it looks like a mini cruise ship. To eat at the buffet you pay before entering and the cost is about 15 euros, for breakfast instead about 5 euros. I only tried the buffet and I was very satisfied, there was plenty of choice and drinks were included.
The reception staff were very helpful with us being the only Westerners. There are many vending machines for drinks but also Cup Noodles. There are two onsen (one male and one female) open until 23:00, There is a smoking area.

The crossing itself was good and the buffet restaurant was great but the cabin was not as expected and we didn’t get the nights rest we expected.
If you have to stay in a standard room, don’t. The beds are like rocks, the pillows are postage stamp size and no towels are provided.
The office doesn’t open until the stated time 90 minutes before sailing so don’t go early expecting to arrange your passage.
No announcements in English, but the staff are helpful and try to work things out to assist.
The automated draft beer dispenser in the restaurant is a notable addition and novelty we enjoyed.

One of the highlights of our time in Japan. More like a cruise ship than a ferry. Our only problem was that the trip didn’t last long enough!!
The rooms were excellent (amongst our group, 4 different configurations were booked). Dinner and breakfast buffet, sensational. And the onsen, just magical.

I boarded the Sunflower Murasaki.
I joined a tour with a travel agency, so the travel agency had rented out a 16-person tourist room, and there was no one snoring loudly, so I was able to stay comfortably in the bunk bed. The bed had a TV with movie channels, but the terrestrial channels often didn't work when we were away from land.
Also, when I went to sleep, there was a vibration that pushed me up my back, so I couldn't sleep well.
There were coin lockers in the hallway with a coin return system, so you can store your valuables. There were plenty of them.
There were plenty of toilets, both makeup corners and washrooms, so you don't have to wait.
As for the restaurant, after boarding, you have to put your luggage down first, otherwise you will have to wait quite a while if you don't secure a seat at the restaurant. I went with a group, so I asked someone to go and get a seat for me right after boarding. Even then, I couldn't get a seat by the window.
The restaurant was buffet style, and everything was delicious. Beer was available in cans and draft beer glasses. Wine was also available.
There was also music and projection mapping, which was fun to enjoy. The wifi didn't work well.
There were foreign passengers on board, so it seemed difficult to make purchases from the vending machines because they were only available in Japanese.

Never ride a tourist.
It was a mess with snoring, the smell of age, and the smell of food and clothes. Truck drivers in particular are really cruel.
Although it's a little more expensive, using a private bet is definitely more enjoyable for your mental health.
It's 5 times more noisy and smelly than I expected.
Sunflower itself sometimes holds events, so it's fun and feels like a normal ferry.

We travelled from Beppu to Osaka on the Sunflower ferry. A couple of tips for travelers:
1. There are lockers at Beppu ferry terminal so if you have to leave your hotel early, take a taxi there, leave your bags, and explore the town until it’s time to check in for your trip
2. The loud speaker announcement are only in Japanese so make sure to have a conversation translation app ready so you can understand the onboard announcements.
The accommodations were clean and comfortable (we had a private suite) and they provided ice, bottled water, and tea and coffee. Breakfast was too early for us to even bother with, so instead we had some ice cream and espresso (both complementary for suite guests).
We would definitely do this again!

Another way to travel from Kyushu to Honshu. We board the ferry from Beppu. Nice decoration, boarding experience was very good and fast. Although room size not so spacious but its enough. Buffet dinner also good with variety of dishes, breakfast was very early and only had 45 minutes window from 05.20 - 06.15 something. I was staying in deluxe room which is very good and the bath room was better then standard room. Wifi somehow troublesome, get yourself ready to rest not playing internet.

I boarded the newly built ship Sanflower Currenai and enjoyed a boat trip from Osaka to Beppu.
The Japanese-Western style suite was beautiful and very relaxing.
