I had a great time in this cooking class. Rina, who's from Okinawa, taught us how to cook four different traditional Okinawan dishes including Rafute, Goya Champuru, Asa Soup, and traditional fried donuts!
The dishes were delicious and authentic as Rina learned them from her Okinawan grandmother and explained the traditional version of Goya Champuru is vegetarian while most restaurants serve modified versions with meat.
I was also surprised to learn that Asa Soup may have a special benefit of boosting your immune system and protecting against the Coronavirus (Covid-19)! Needless to say this is definitely a way to protect oneself if it actually works - and a delicious placebo at the very least!
We also took a tour of the local market to learn more about the local ingredients and seafood. Rina also taught me how to pick out the freshest Goya (Bittermelon) - she knows her stuff!
Finally after the class, I made the first 3 dishes for my wife and she was happy so definitely 5 stars for Taste of Okinawa! Arigato gosaimasu!
