秋田駅から車で20分ほど。小高い畑の中にお堂があります。教会というより、寺院の雰囲気。聖堂の中には十字架があります。涙を流すマリア様を目の前で見せていただき、お祈りさせていただきました。

If you are near Akita and want to nourish your soul, sit quietly here for a while, and take a break from Buddhist, Shinto and animist sites (all worthwhile of course) and try a Catholic one. If the weather is bad, I suggest taking a taxi, but when sunny the half-hour walk up from the bus stop is worthwhile.

I went to Akita last May 2019. Took a shinkansen from my hotel in Morioka and arrived at Akita station after a pleasant 2 hour trip. Then a 30 minute bus ride to Yudanaka.Finally another 30 minutes on foot up a secluded mountain road to the Convent of Our Lady of Akita.
The nuns don't speak much English but it didn't matter. I was finally able to see the miraculous wooden statue of our Virgin. It was a supreme moment .

バチカンが奇跡と認定した涙を流したマリア像が安置されている教会があると聞いて行って来ました。
教会のイメージはステンドグラスやいわゆる西洋建築のそれと思っていましたが、こちらは和洋折衷のつくりというか、お寺さんのような屋根作りに十字架。加えて靴は脱いで礼拝堂にあがる。
マリア様含めて中は撮影禁止。敬虔なクリスチャンの方が遠く海外からおみえになると聞いてはおりましたが、この日はポーランドから礼拝にきておりました。
マリア様は秋田美人を彷彿させる日本風な顔立ちで、そこまで大きくはなくも気品と威厳があり、物見遊山で来た自分はちょっとばつが悪かったですが一見の価値はあると思います。

Read up on the occurrences that took place here back in the 70s and 80s. Regardless of what your religious beliefs are, Seitai Hoshikai is worth a visit. Plan about spending say one hour here between the chapel and the gardens. Easy to get to by bus and then walk. Very peaceful walk even during the hottest month (August) of the year. I do plan to return.

Was a very surreal feeling to be where Marian apparitions took place. The message was prayers and penance, for the world... saw the weeping statue of the wooden Virgin Mary statue..
The garden was beautiful, doing the Stations of the Cross in the falling snow... great peace experienced in this garden of eden.

涙を流したマリア像を訪ねて伺いました。一見お寺かと見紛う建築は、宮大工さんによるものとのこと。街から少し離れた静かな環境です。

Nothing much to shout about. It does have a well manicured Japanese garden at the side of the chapel. It has it's histroy but if you are not into it, can possibly skip this.

涙を101回流して、ヴァチカンから正式に奇跡認定されている教会です。日本では唯一。
一見お寺の様式ですが、列記とした教会。内覧が可能で、イエス・キリストの像が掛けられた祭壇があり、礼拝用の席が並んでいます。また、脇には奇跡登録されているマリア様がいらっしゃいます。
もちろん目の前で涙を流されることはありませんでしたが、木彫りの優しい表情のマリア様を見るのは心が癒やされます。
ぜひ行ってみてください！とは流石に言えません。ですが、信者さんならよろしいのではないでしょうか。
車で行くにあたり、裏側から入ると、険しめの山道を登ることになり、途中不安になります。が、大丈夫、ちゃんと辿り着けますので、そのまま勇気を振り絞って険しい道を突き進みましょう。そうすると天国のように開けたお寺様式の教会が見えます。

any idea if it's open on 25 and 26 November, and if there's weekday mass? as the website currently doesn't show any masses available from November 24 Sun to November 26 Tues; was hoping to visit after the Pope's session at Tokyo Dome on 26 November.
