It was a very good experience for me and my friends spending time hiking together during the break. Its a very healing hike for nature lover and its a little bit tough tho, theres a little bit of mosquitoes and red ants bites.make sure to wear a long sleeve shirt and pants.but it was a good exercise.we found "periuk kera",and a big durian fell out from the tree,be careful with your head and we even found a crab at the top of the mountain!😍btw,Make sure to bring a lots of water and some food to enjoy the view up there while eatingg.

Right after a 5.45km run in MBKS attending the #larianjomrunsarawak 2020 & a bowl of Kolomee in Jalan Song we headed to the foothill of Mount Singai, Bau, Sarawak. There we were welcomed by an impressive weather since the whole of Kuching was raining cats and dogs for the past 2 days so I was very lucky for having a good weather for the run and also the coming hike.

It is about 40 mins drive from Kuching; use the new way to Bau from Batu Kawa. This can be considered a religious area as there is a chapel at the top and do carry a few bricks on your way up. Not sure how many wooden plank steps are there but I am quite sure there is at least a hundred. Can be slippery on rainy days or after the rain so make sure you have slippers or shoes with a good grip. Take your time walking up and do enjoy the reading at each stop along the way up.

The trek upward the summit is good if you take the trail at your own pace whilst on a lookout for the "Corspe Flower" or "Armophopallus" flower (Giant flower that last for several days and emitt foul smell as in "Rafflesia".

Lovely place to visit a church after climbing 1000 steps, surrounded by jungle. Then a jungle trek up to the summit, with a nice reward, a gorgeous view.
Good hiking shoes is a must. Bring water.

There’s no entrance fee. We went up all the way to the summit and took about 5.5 hours altogether with an half hour break on the summit. Bring some snacks and enough water!

My husband and I love hiking and we did a lot of hikes in Europe and USA. This hike will be rated 9/10 if compared to all other hikes we have done. We brought my niece and nephew (10&11 years old) to their first hike ever. I didn’t think they could make it and I’m proud of them.

There are 14 stations before arriving to the church. You get a viewing area with some resting benches. These 14 stations are wooden steps consist of 700+ steps of stairs. Then you proceed to hike up the summit. Some parts are tough and there are ropes provided to help you climb. I strongly recommend wearing good shoes even we saw some people hike up wearing slippers!

The view from the top was beautiful and definitely feel you achieved something!

Thanks to the Catholic Church and its members from the surrounding villages, the climb to one part of Mt Singai is made much easier. This path leads to the open concept chapel, sandwiched by two barrack style hostels/dormitories, one side for female and another for male occupants. The climb is lined with large wooden crosses on the right, properly marked as 14 stations of the cross. The Catholics focus on these crosses to commemorate the last day of Jesus Christ in His journey to crucifixion. All the way of the climb is breath taking. Some spots on the left are strategically marked by some platforms with benches for the climbers to rest. These spots offer most spectacular views overlooking the surrounding villages below. The views are postcard perfect, so to speak. This part of Mt Singai commemorates the conversion of the ethnic Bidayuh from animism to Catholicism. It's now apply referred to as the Catholic Memorial Pilgrimage Center (CMPC). The Center is most popular during Lent, the season specially favored by the Catholics to pray the Stations of the Cross. Besides the Catholics, Christians of some other denominations also recognize and use the Center as a pilgrimage site. The other parts of Mt Singai are not easily accessible because no proper path is cleared and no steps are constructed. One has to walk through the semi-pristine forest/jungle to see the early Bidayuh settlements in those sites. But for those who are fit to rough it out, it's worth walking into and feel a part of the unwritten history. Only the Bidayuh hold the key to that secret, an experience no words can write about.

We climbed Mount Singai on 29th June 2017. The first one hour of the ascent was the Catholic Pilgrimage of the 14 Stations of the Cross, ending at a church. It was easy going on wooden steps with plenty of seats for rests on the way. The second part, which took us 2 hours, was a steep muddy trail to the summit at 518m. At certain places, knotted ropes are installed to help but it is steep walking rather than mountain climbing. I imagine that the trail would be very slippery during rain.
The descent was a bit faster: 1 hour 40 mins for the upper section and just 25 mins for the lower part. The round trip took six hours.
There are toilets at the church level. There are no streams on Mount Singai so you need to carry enough water for your trip. The recommended cut-off time is 3pm.
Choose a dry day and enjoy the climb!

You need to have a good pair of walking shoes to walk up the hill. A very good place to go for a good exercise with plenty of greenery and fresh air. Just be aware that the ascend are quite steep and needed a fair bit legs strength for the climb.
