I took the cruise on an impulse. Despite the light drizzle, it was the perfect way to dial down a busy day. Sitting watching the world goes by as you cruise up and down the river is a great way to relax.
You get to see all the sights along the river, the PA system needs a little work. The traditional dance performance at the end was a nice extra. Worth the money.

Bought our tickets on the spot, and the lady at the ticketing counter was kind of relieved to sell us those tickets. Turned out that there were only 3 families (we accounted for 2 of those) onboard that evening - a total of 12 guests on a boat that looked like it could take more than 100. Not that we were complaining about practically having the whole vessel to ourselves...
They offer a pretty good commentary, introducing the places that we were seeing on the ride. It was informative for us - first-time visitors to Sarawak.
The views we saw along the way were also good. The setting sun provided good lighting for pictures, and we took many.
The crew onboard were all rather laid-back and not exactly the most energetic or enthusiastic though. This applied to the performers during the cultural dance show as well. Not that they were bad, but it probably is just the local culture - we noticed that in this city, people are generally not in a hurry. We got used to it after awhile, and learned not to expect anything to be at the same level of efficiency that we were used to in other places.
Not a bad activity if one has time.

I purchased a ticket the day prior when walking the waterfront. Cruise departs 5.30pm daily returns 7pm.
Go beyond bridge and mosque before turning. Travelling past the city and on for quite a distance to where
hundreds of new apartments are being built. Return on sunset with lovely city views.
A bar and food are available onboard. A local dance group perform. Its a great was to see local people living on riverbanks and get some idea of Kuching city from the water.

Awalnya saya ragu untuk mencoba cruise ini, namun akhirnya coba juga. Waktu itu saya membayar RM 60. Selain mendapatkan tiket cruise, saya juga mendapatkan free buffet kue lapis dan es jeruk. Menurut saya sangat lumayan sih. Selama menaiki kapal, kita akan dijelaskan secara singkat beberapa bangunan yang kita lewati sepanjang sungai dalam Bahasa Inggris. Selain itu kita juga bisa menyaksikan pertujukkan seni di atas kapal.

We enjoyed it you get different views from the river. And if you pick your seats then you get a great sunset view. It is not as hot this time of the day and there was a nive breeze.

Wow! This cost less than every single guided tour of the city, you get a whole BIG river boat to explore to your heart's desire, the crew are very friendly, and the sunset cruise is absolutely magnificent.
At the end there's a cultural performance by tribal dancers and you can feel free to interact with them.
Well worth the price of admission and for the fresh breeze through your hair - the ship is surprisingly fast and maneuverable!

The actual river is great to see and the commentary is very good, as are the three cultural dancers, they do their best and smile. It costs 60 Ringgit each and includes a welcome drink and cake. Past that I was unimpressed by many staff. It was raining when we go to the berth and we asked if we could get aboard but they said they were waiting for another person, We thought it was a tourist. About 6 minutes late this guy wanders in and down the ramp and opens the door - he was the ticket checker. So then we were told we could board, this guy did not welcome us and did not say anything. Upstairs he and many staff were on their phones all the time and slouched around, He smirked at the dancers. Even the booking lady was really disinterested in our money. WE just got the feeling they didn't want to be there - they did not make us welcome, they hung around the bar ion their phones, we just wanted to get back and get off.
