We decided to check out this little museum during our stay in Davao. Our cousins who are residents of the city did not even know it existed. We were happily surprised at how many artifacts and exhibits were available. It was beautifully curated and not busy at all. The museum attendant even gave us a personal guided tour. A great way to spend a quiet afternoon in Davao. Highly recommend!

Davao Museum is different from Museo Dabawenyo. The place is located in Insular Village Lanang. There is an entrance fee. It is rarely being visited like 1 group a day.

In the US I grew up on a diet of fine art museums, and grand quality museums found in NYC and Washington DC. In the Philippines, I have learned to dig a little deeper and broaden my knowledge to fulfil he same desire to learn about things. Museums like this are really quite interesting, detailing the history, crafts, and early peoples of the area. The exhibits are good quality and offer many beautiful decorative and functional objects. If you take a taxi, consider holding the taxi until you;re finished because the museum is set back some from the street and the area is not quite as urban as other parts of Davao.

its not a very big museum, but it is very informative and worth the two hours i spent there on a warm but wet day.....i enjoyed the history and the facts

This is a very well presented museum and it is free and gives an insight to Philippine culture. It is smaller than big Museums, like in Britain ,Russia or Egypt but it still a nice museum

Un piccolo museo privato sulla storia e l 'etnografia di Mindanao.
Ingresso 100 peso per due sale: Una pannelli e foto con la storia dell'isola dalle origini, l'altra al piano superiore con alcuni diorami con costumi, mestieri, anfore, armi, strumenti musicali.
Insomma, una copia in piccolo e molto fuori mano del museo gratis che c'è in Poblacion.
Si può evitare, salvo non sapere cosa fare

The past event that you have not known about Davao history, will be foretold once you visit the said museum.
Imagine, how the Japanese first settled in Davao city before the WW II, build the city 1st school, hospital, administrative building and other developments that after WWII, they were forcibly returned to Japan leaving behind their fruits of their labor that the Davaoenos would later improved and utilized it for the good of all settlers in Davao even for the future.
Then I was wondering where the known political figure in Danao City, Cebu, PH Duterte's and the Almendras family clan went from Danao City, Cebu on the 60's and 70's .
It was after 40 yrs. after , that I was able to visit the said Museum, I have known their journey to Davao region to became a 2nd Davao city builders for good and just human settlement.
First the Duterte patriarch, the father of our current President of PH, has become the 1st Governor, then a Congressman and a cabinet secretary during late Marcos time.
Then followed by Almendras who was also a great political figure in Danao City , Cebu, PH to became also a governor in Davao when vacated by Pres.Duterte's father when he became a cabinet secretary of the late President Marcos.
The information gap has been filled up when I visited the said museum for the first time alone after leaving Danao city on the late 60's and studying and working until retirement in Iligan City and Lanao del Norte for 40 long yrs.
After all education is a continues process, even retired we can still learn.

I love history and while this museum is very small, it was worth the visit for me. The staff were friendly and helpful. Plus they listened to my questions and had answers to most of them. It would be great if they would expand and get more items and more information to share with the people.

A good place about Davao's history. But don't miss the Museo Dabawenyo. This is a different place and often mixed with that.
Take your time, read, understand. Davao has a big history and I really think a bright future.

Inquiries:
a. is there an entrance fee?
b. Can we go there during week days?
c. Do we need a clearance from the museum (i believe the museum is located in an elite and restricted village)in order to visit?
