Imponente monumento a ricordo della lotta contro il fascismo, si trova in uno dei parchi dietro la cattedrale ortodossa e data la sua grandezza lo domina. Peccato non ci fossero anche traduzioni in inglese di quanto incico in rumeno.

In the middle of the Anton Scudier Central Park of Timisoara you will find this monument.
Erected in the communist era in December 1962 originally named "The Monument of the Soviet Soldier" after 1989 it was rechristened to "Monument of the Unknown Soldier" and on its pedestal a plaque was engraved with the words that approximately translate as " glory to the Romanian soldier, heir of the traditions of his forefathers , who fought bravely against bolshevism and fascisms for the freedom and independence of the motherland " (interesting fact that during WWII the Romanian army fought on the sides of the Germans against the Bolsheviks and from 1944 on side the of the Bolsheviks against the Nazi Germans ) - so it creates a lot of controversies.
Bottom line is - it is a majestic piece of modern art - standing in the middle of the park , made of marble so for those of you into arts it can be interesting.
Personally I consider it interesting and worth checking out - when you are in the area.
