This has been high on my Art lover bucket list for as long as I can remember. And I was so disappointed. I couldn’t appreciate the art because there were so many people packed in like sardines. Everywhere you look there’s people in the way.

The Winter Palace, which has housed the Hermitage since the October Revolution, is impressive with its pistachio-green facade, dotted with numerous columns. Built by the Italian Bartolomeo Rastrelli between 1754 and 1762 and commissioned by Empress Elizabeth, the palace is in the Baroque style that was popular at the time. Its majestic proportions are complemented by a variety of ornaments: columns, reliefs, vases and statues.

The Winter Palace, which has housed the Hermitage since the October Revolution, is impressive with its long pistachio green façade dotted with 400 pristine white columns. It was built by the Italian Bartolomeo Rastrelli between 1754 and 1762 in the then fashionable Baroque style, commissioned by Empress Elizabeth. Its majestic proportions can only be matched by the variety of its ornamentation (columns, bas-reliefs, vases, statues).

This is a legendary palace and at the same time a Great Museum, the State Hermitage! After your first visit, you will definitely want to come again and see paintings, sculptures, historical exhibits, monuments of ancient culture and even icons!

We visited the museum during the New Year holidays 2024.
This is a separate building, located at Palace Embankment, 32. Not to be confused with the sixth Winter Palace, the main building of the State Hermitage, at Palace Square, 2.
I won’t say that I visit St. Petersburg every decade. The previous time I visited the Hermitage was during my college years, in the 1990s. St. Petersburg is a sleepy city, innovation does not happen here.
Nevertheless, this museum became a pleasant exception. This is a relatively new establishment, it opened in the 1990s. The museum recreates the historical interiors of Peter the Great's apartments in the city, including his original furniture and personal belongings.
The visit is made exclusively in an organized manner, in groups, and only with previously purchased tickets. The tour is led by a museum researcher. Unfortunately, the level of general culture of this employee is very low, her speech is full of vernacular. She did not answer additional questions about the structure of the palace and further plans for its development.

The official residence of Peter I was located on the territory now occupied by the Hermitage Theater. In the preserved part of the palace there is a memorial exhibition dedicated to Peter the Great and his era. The project was carried out by the architect. D. Quarenghi in 1783-1787 The building of the Hermitage Theater was erected on the site of the 2nd Winter Palace of Peter I, created according to the design of G.-I. Mattarnovi and D. Trezzini. There is an inaccuracy in the address of the attraction, the correct address is: Dvortsovaya embankment, 32

This attraction was the highlight of my trip to St Petersburg. The architecture and artifacts inside it are so intricately made and detailed, and the interior design, everything from the ceiling to the floor is spectacular to look at and is so beautiful. If you are ever visiting St. Petersburg then you just have to visit the Winter Palace, it is a must go and you absolutely will not regret visiting it.

Считаю, что в таком месте, как зимний дворец, должны рассказывать об истории нашего Великого Государства!!! А не делать на территории выставки египетской культуры!!! Серьезно???? В зимнем дворце саркофаги с мумиями поставили ??? И чтоб в аудиогиде рассказывали не о стилях «рокко», «барокко», а рассказывали о событиях тех времён!!!!!

Живем в СПб. Но сколько бы мы не приходили сюда, всегда как в первый раз. Очень любим ходить по этим залам, вновь и вновь пересматривать экспонаты пропитанные историей и временем.

Sorry for the delay in answering your question. The answer is do you wish to get an idea of the history of the place or if you are a history etc buff who delves into every detail of the past. You could spend a day or a week in St. Petersburg alone and barely scratch the surface. Similarly the same can be said of any of their bigger attractions of which The Hermitage is possibly the most varied regarding works of art etc., and the cost of entry for a few days soon mounts up. The other point that has to be addressed is that the Russians are not keen to have individuals wandering their country as opposed to an organised group and I felt that , as tourism is fairly new to them, they are inexperienced in dealing with what we in the west would term an ideal situation for making a few bob , so be prepared for a level of stand offishness when they are dealing with tourists. This may relax in time but it is there.
Getting back to the Hermitage the crowds and noise can be substantial and everyone wants to take photos.

Неправильно размещенные отзывы. Под названием "Зимний дворец Петра I" сайтом опубликованы отзывы о разных достопримечательностях!!!!!! Зимний дворец Петра I - Малые палатки - это НЕ Эрмитаж!!!!!!!!! У Эрмитажа официальное название - просто Зимний дворец!!!! Исправьте и не вводите людей в заблуждение!

Конечно отзыв писался о «Зимнем дворце»,а не о «Зимнем Дворце Пётра 1».На сайте неправильно указано название достопримечательности,поэтому реплики ко мне считаю некорректными—все вопросы к тем людям,кто создавал данные неточности.
