We visited this cemetery as part of a city tour. The war memorial was our main interest. As you enter the cemetery, there is a concrete sculpture with the years of the war i.e 1941-1945. The centerpiece of the memorial is a tall stella topped by a Soviet star. The eternal flame burned at it's base. Near to the bottom of the stella were reliefs of Soviet stars with the hammer and sickle insignia. To the left of the stella, were granite plaques with names of the fallen soldiers. At the beginning of the plaques of names was a wreath monument with a soldiers name and the year 1975. There was a grey plaque with gold lettering below the monument in Russian script.
To the right of the stella, are six bronze bas reliefs related to WW2. From right to left, the first relief related to the Battle of Moscow, between Sept 1941-April 1942. The next was related to the Seige of Leningrad between Sept 1941 – Jan 1944. The next was the Battle of Stalingrad between Jun 1942 – Feb 1943. The next was the Battle of Kursk between Jul - Aug 1943. This was the largest tank battle of all time. The next relief was the only one without dates, but it was obvious that it related to the Battle of Berlin, as the iconic image of the Soviet flag on the Reichstag building was the central image, and at the bottom left, an image of the meeting of the Allied leaders at the Yalta conference. The last relief was the best, as it showed an image of the victory parade in Red Square,Moscow, with the German banners being thrown down as a symbol of victory, and to the bottom right, a tired soldier sitting at the side of the road trying to return home after the war.
We thought that this was a great memorial, although slightly far removed from the town center, was well worth it. In recent times, persons have laid flowers at the Leningrad (St Petersburg) relief in tribute to the bombing in 2017. After viewing this area, we walked through the cemetery with our guide, Luba. She explained the wars between the Uralmarsh and Central gangs, and the interesting "mafia" graves. We had visited many Russian cemeteries, and this was was just as intriguing as the others. Of particular interest is the sculpture tributes related to the persons profession, so the gangsters were portrayed as well dressed young men, a football for a football coach, a sculpture of a well dressed lady who was a model etc. We had fun walking through and trying to guess what each sculpture represented. At the exit of the cemetery is a memorial plaque with the image of Vladimir Vysotsky.
This was a great visit, and we enjoyed our time here. Our local guide was very knowledgeable and provided a great introduction to Yekaterinburg. You can attempt this on your own by taking bus # 22 which does this route.

It is the biggest by area cemetery in the oblast. It is mainly famous for overseas visitors for one of its sections where people who died in gang wars in 1990s were buried. Hence it is also known as the Mafia cemetery. Please don't think it is worth visiting just because of it. It has a monument to those who did not return from the Great Patriotic War. I walked slowly along the rows and found graves of many famous local personalities, including the brother of the first Russian president.
I reached the cemetery by a city bus to the "Kontrolnaya" bus stop.
