I have been to Kyoto many times but this I felt the Japanese culture the most. We had Shidashi lunch in Zen room where has beautiful Japanese garden view. Shidashi lunchi is kind of Japanese full course lunch in a Bento box.
Zen meditiation, full course lunch, sake, great view on best season. That is so valuable!

We started the morning viewing the cherry blossoms at Myonshinji temple, an ancient temple complex with spectacular architectural features. The meticulous attention to detail made me feel as if I were in a heavenly work of art. The gardens were beautifully curated and fresh to the senses after a light rain. Our zen master sensei was the perfect teacher. He lightly guided us through the weeds of our mind to a place of pure relaxation and peace. We had no trouble understanding the subtle intricacies of his teaching because we were always in the presence of an English speaking guide. She was able to elaborate on the history and significance of Zen in Japanese culture. Lunch was served in a beautiful room overlooking a zen garden. We ate in silence, not because we had to, but because the food was so rich in flavor it left most of us speechless. Highly recommend this tour for those wanting to have a unique experience during a visit to Kyoto.

On a vraiment apprécié !
Bref on recommande !

This tour included an information tour around the temple grounds with a very capable and knowledgeable interpreter, a wonderful zazen meditation experience with a very calm, happy and welcoming monk, a beautifully prepared traditional Japanese lunch box - in 'Shidashi' style (an old style of food not easy to find around, and definitely worth trying at least once), and matcha tea and a Japanese sweet to finish.
It was a great well-rounded tour. Calming, away from the crowds, informative, and led by a very sweet guide.
There are temples all over Kyoto and seemingly traditional things happening everywhere you look, but as a westerner with a language barrier you are often looking from the outside in, without much understanding of what, how and why things are happening.
But this tour took us away from the crowds, and let us experience and learn about some of these traditions in an authentic yet non-threatening way.
Recommended.

I was very glad that I joined this tour. It included visiting Japanese style garden inside Myoshinji temple (one of the biggest, oldest and most beautiful Buddhist temple in Kyoto), Zen meditating with the instruction by the monk, having Shidashi bento (vegetarian foods inside, you can order this bento to your place as well - you dont need to go to the restaurant) and matcha. All the activities were very authentic and well prepared. The tour has English translator, so I did not have any problem with language barriers. The organizer - Chisayo san is very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend for anyone wants to have an unique experience in Kyoto!!

If you are looking for a unique way of discovering Kyoto besides the other usual tours visiting temples or Shijo for shopping where thousands of visitors are gathering in crowds, I strongly recommend this "mindful" tour to you. Besides visiting places, learning something precious to bring back home is what you can do in this journey by practicing Zazen meditation under the instruction of a monk in Daiouin temple belong to Myoshinji Temple, as I believe, the centre of Rinzai sect of Buddhism in Kyoto. On this occasion, I know about Shojin Ryori Shidashi for the first time after nearly 2 years living in Kyoto. It turns out to be Shojin Ryori is Japanese Vegan and it is worth to try, very delicious and healthy. After the journey, I felt so relaxed and as light as a feather.

We started with a very informative guide of the temple complex, visited a temple garden, and then had an introduction to zazen meditation from an experienced monk in his temple. We then practiced zazen looking out to another really beautiful garden, and finished with an amazing shidashi meal. The food was prepared well, visually appealing, and contained a nice variety of tastes and textures. The ingredients of the dish were listed and they were careful to ask about allergies, and even noted which foods contained gluten. Eating in the temple was very peaceful. All of the people involved in this tour were very friendly, thoughtful, and helpful; which really made it a memorable experience. I highly recommend a diet helper tour for a unique and memorable experience in Kyoto.
