Kyoto - the home of tea ceremony - is undoubtedly the place to enjoy a traditional tea ceremony. At Juan they have the wonderful motto „ichigo ichie“ meaning a once in a lifetime encounter, just as when the planets align. This motto you feel in the peacefulness and respect with which the tea ceremony is conducted. We learned a lot and can very much recommend this experience for you and your partner. It creates a shared experience of the depth of Japanese culture to bring home.

I can't recommend this enough! The experience was for a small group and did a great job walking through history and customs, showing a demonstration, including a hands on portion, and answering any additional questions. I loved the layout of the course and it was well worth the time! This helped deepen our appreciation for tea culture and also allowed us to comfortable partake in tea later in our trip as well.

The hosts could not have been more gracious, and they nicely explained basic aspects of the tea ceremony, but the room was a bit shabby. It was not the best example of the aesthetics of cha-do.

I think you got the wrong venue. We have not had a trip advisor client for more than 1 year now as we closed this channel.

Really good and fun. I took my kids and they loved it. They gave you little snacks. You got to make the tea too. Very nice. Really good for 7 and up. You have to be respectful but I took my 9 and 12 kids and they loved it.

The hostess was so gracious and knowledgeable. It was my first time at a tea ceremony and i have to say the history behind it was magnificent. Great activity for family, friends or couples.

Really cool to learn about the intricacies and traditions behind the Japanese matcha and tea ceremonies. Instructors were so kind and gave us free Japanese sweets to have with the matcha.

We booked a tea ceremony group lesson that lasted a bit over an hour with Maki. She is very kind and speaks English extremely well. We learned how to prepare matcha tea for an informal ceremony and we tried some sweets. It was a very interesting experience and we definitely recommend it to everyone who visits Kyoto.

May I know how much it charge if we would like to add in kimono experience in the tea ceremony?
撰写日期:2019年8月18日
Not sure but send an inquiry direct to the tea house. They respond quickly to emails.
撰写日期:2019年8月18日
About an hour to 70 minutes. This includes a tour of the temple.

Do we need to book in far in advance or did anyone find they were able to book the day before or just turn up on the day? I notice the sessions contain a maximum of only 6 to 7 people.
撰写日期:2018年7月1日
You can pay in advance by PayPal or on at the door on the day. Paying in advance by PayPal or Credit cards is cheaper.

Hi Aileen Y. The cermony is in English. A good way to understand the different parts of a Japanese tea ceremony.

Is there a special dress code, so we have to wear Japanese clothing?
撰写日期:2017年10月22日
No, normally there is a dress code for attending the tea ceremony but when you come to Ju-An you will leave your shoes at the entrance of the chashitsu and then proceed inside waring your socks.
Best regards
