A very nice military museum.

This was much larger and more expansive than we expected for a free museum. It was warm inside, but it was warm outside, so…
We enjoyed this museum.

Military Buff Gem

Hidden gem on Camp Mabry. Open to the public just go to the website and follow directions. If youre into military history it follows the path of the 36th Infantry Division throughout WWI, WWII and beyond as well as Texas and Mexican history through the transition to independance. Vehicles and aircraft from all eras with each having a bit of history. From Sherman's to Abrams on the armor row outside. Would recommend for the history buffs.

A lot to see. Well organized. Learned a lot about texas 36th infantry division.
Visited with my 14 year old, he loved it. The exhibition gave us the opportunity to talk about history of the WWII and US involvement.

Great Museum, A Hidden Gem
This was an excellent military museum, and as of this writing on of the few museums open in Austin. It is a comprehensive history of the Texas military from the Texas Revolution up to the present day. An impressive display of military vehicles and weaponry, and an impressive array of artifacts. Perhaps one of the best military museums I have been to, including the Imperial War Museums in London and Ottawa. A must see for anyone interested in military history and the history of Texas.

Collection of vehicles and Equipment.
This museum on the base of camp Mabry was a delight to see. The museum provides basic displays that outline many of battles Texans were involved in, including the Mexican revolutionary period, the Civil War, Iraqi War, etc. These were informative but I came to see the collection of vehicles, tanks, guns and trucks developed by the military to serve the needs of the soldiers from the early 1900’s through the Vietnam war. My wife and I spent around 2 hours here. The museum is free to enter.

Everything you could want to see about the Military
We saw tanks, trucks, and equipment from all different years and wars. VERY interesting. We had a greeter who filled us in on a lot of the history surrounding us. MANY exhibits to see and humble you as you see what all these brave men and women did and continue to do serving our country! There was a little gift shop area we got the kids some things to bring home from our trip. Lots to see outside , plenty of photo opportunities also.

Good history of Texas military
The museum is located in Camp Mabry and you must go through a check point to enter the camp. The only entrance that was open when I visited (2/9/20) was from 35th Street due to construction closing the 45th Street entrance. From 35th Street it is a long drive through the camp to the museum. There are signs to assist you in finding the museum. Admission is free (there is a donation box, if you would like to do so). There are many weapons and vehicles on display inside and outside of the museum. There is a good history of Texas' involvement in military activity from their revolution from Mexico to modern times. There is a gift shop near the entrance/exit.

Otimo museu militar no Texas

Lot's of Tanks
Camp Mabry, a living museum in itself, hosts the museum in Building 6. The museum provides an excellent overview of the military history of Texas from the Spanish colonization to Afghanistan. Every visitor should watch the video of "lost battalion" about the POW who spent years in Japanese prison camps. I liked the tanks, big guns, Piper Cubs, and sitting in the F-16 cockpit. Don't forget to drive down Armor Row to see more tanks, big guns, and Armored Personnel Carriers.
