Nice shop. Friendly staff. Good selection of folk arts from across Brazil, especially the north. Lots of beautifully carved wooden saints, some painted. Reasonably priced.

Super magasin avec des oeuvres d'art de plusieurs artistes à tous les prix. Gérante agréable avec qui l'on peut discuter des oeuvres ou de rio. ..

This is a wonderful shop with a huge selection of folk art and native American arts and crafts, some by well-known artists. With the closure of the Indian, Arte Naif and Folklore Museums in Rio, this may be the best collection of its type in the city. "Shanghai Denny" seems to have misunderstood what kind of store he was visiting - the collection is actually large and extremely varied. The owner is a font of information. This is a a great place for an outing, but you may find yourself leaving with more than you planned!

We took a cab to get to this shop, and while they do offer some interesting items, the shop is too small and to many of the offered items are too similar to be that interesting. We did see a few items that would add to the decor of someone's home, but we could not find anything we were interested in. The shop is small, and their inventory is very limited.

I have been an admirer and a shopper of this somewhat hidden treasure in Rio de Janeiro from the 1970's and was surprised that it is not listed by TripAdvisor. So it is my honor to bring it to the attention of all TripAdvisors readers/clients who come to Rio de Janeiro for business or pleasure.
The two-story house has beautiful displays of folk art made by artisans living in all regions of Brazil. Owner Ana Maria Chindler goes on exploratory expeditions, often driving a car to places not even on the maps, and brings back folk art produced by now several generations of craftsmen and women. From Basquetry, to Weaving, from ceramic, wooden and cloth sculptures of whimsical animals to religious carvings, wooden toys, toys fashioned from coca-cola and other aluminum cans, purses that are embroidered with poetry, bracelets, earrings, plates and bowls woven with the Golden Grass that only grows in the state of Tocantins, Brazil's youngest state bordering Legal Amazon lands.
