A fantastic opportunity to see archeological experts in action at a live Roman excavation site! The museum has plenty of parking for cars, buses and camper vans, and is fantastic for wanting to know about the Roman history of Bulgaria. Perfect to visit if you are staying in areas such as Lesicheri, Rusalya, Resen, Dichin, Hotnitsa and Nikyup in the Veliko Tarnovo and Pavlikeni regions.

A very interesting place, archaeological works are still ongoing.Perfect trip for relax.Lots of space. I recommend it!!!

Still located 15 km from Veliko Tarnovo (not very well signposted and you will have to find your way carefully). Indeed it is in the 2-day visit pass from Veliko Tarnovo and around! Otherwise it is located in a fairly "desert" area far away from everything, the site is grandiose and extends over a beautiful visiting area, a map is given to you at the entrance. The remains are well highlighted and are still the subject of research and excavations (a team was at work during our visit!) Everything is there: columns, baths, old thermal baths, odeon, forum, paved street, etc. .etc a real Roman city, specialists will appreciate it as well as novices.

First of all, the position on the map is wrong here on TA, it's outside of the city and you need a car to get there.
An amazing insight into Roman civil engineering with plenty of information in English. The archeological work is ongoing and there's surely more to be discovered there.

We visited this place 1 hour before it should be closed, no people there at all. We just sitting on these antique rocks and it was amazing.

Please don't read the 3 reviews from 2021 and be put off visiting, Nicopolis is worth the effort. First, although the roads aren't great, they are fine for a normal car as long as you drive appropriately.....think farm track. Second, the price is EU3 per adult but also astonishingly the same EU3 for a family of up to 5.
The site itself is big...400m by 400m, and presented as found so quite rough and ready. It could definitely benefit from more description but there are information boards dotted around.
You can see the forum, theatre, govt buildings, surrounding walls as well as infrastructure... hypocausts, water supply, drainage etc. Its a great view into how a Roman town evolved, was run, parts replaced and finally abandoned.
Well worth the visit.

expensive and nothing to offer for the price. A bunch of rocks, holes in the ground that can swallow you, no descriptions or any information and no guides to tell you more about the city.

nice location, but it lacks funding. It is almost deserted and left on the fate. The road to the roman city is awful and the entrance fee is too high.

A large Roman city with an amazing location. Getting to it, however, is a living adventure. The road is disgusting. You have never seen so many holes in your life. Especially the shortest and most convenient road is impassable for cars. It is about 2 kilometers, but it has not been touched for more than 20 years.

M.S. 2. YY' da Romalılar tarafından kurulan antik bir şehir. Taş ve katmanlı 2.000 yıllık Roma yollarından yürümek harika bir deneyim. Yol bütün şehrin etrafını çevreliyor ve yer yer göçükler mevcut bu yüzden dikkatli yürümenizi tavsiye ederim. İmparator Hadrian zamanında altın çağını yaşayan şehir 5 YY' da Attila Hunları tarafından tahrip edilmiş. Tarnovo şehrinin 20 Km kuzeyinde yer alıyor arabayla köy içerisinden ayrı bir yolla ulaşım sağlıyorsunuz. Giriş kişi başı 6 Leva. Hemen yakınında Yantra Nehri yer aldığı için inanılmaz derecede ufak sinek mevcut maske veya yüz koruyucu takarak gezerseniz iyi olur çünkü sinekler ağzınıza veya gözünüze giriyor. Ayrıca antik şehrin bir bölümünde Roma dönemine ait ev ısıtma sisteminin bir mekanizmasını da gün yüzüne çıkartmışlar. Burayı kesinlikle görmenizi tavsiye ederim. Tarih severler bayılacaktır.
