We decided to pay the art museum a visit to stay in the air conditioning on the warm august Saturday. It was free and definitely worth a trip. The flow of the museum seemed natural and very easy to follow. They had many wonderful pieces from around the world.

Thank you for being open on Sunday afternoon so we had something to enjoy while visiting. Two floors of well curated exhibits! Sculpture garden so-so. Could you put on your website information about the free parking adjacent to the museum? We parked 6 blocks away and walked over in sweltering heat. Would have loved to park there. No cafe?

Beautifully laid out museum with several specialty areas including an amazing collection of Wedgwood, Tribal art, Native American, Asian and Contemporary glass. Absolutely worth the visit.

This is a must-see for anyone interested in numerous periods and styles of art. The collection is so impressive. It ranges from European and American art on the first floor to pre Columbian, African, Native American, and Asian art on the second floor. The visitor will see works by American works by Durand, Inness, Twachtman, Metcalf, Lawson, Heade, Frank Lloyd Wright and many more. Plan on spending at least two hours here if you have any interest in art. They have a nice gift shop too.

Well laid out with many pieces that we thoroughly enjoyed. Often, we go to museums and generally they are all laid out the same. This was similar, but with a welcome perspective about some of the less savory aspects of certain pieces as well as a larger number of artifacts from artists that are typically underrepresented. In addition, there was a fantastic temporary exhibit that likely gives insight into the philosophy of the museum. We spent a good portion of our time in the Expanding Darshan exhibit. It was a great stop.

A beautiful museum with a huge collection of art. Admission was free and staff members were kind. They had really cool displays, not just European art, an incredible Native American art collection!! Bathrooms were accessible and clean. They have small folding chairs you can carry around for free. You can stop to look at specific pieces or just to take a quick break.

The presentation is ordered by donor making it very confusing. You have paintings mixed with oyster plates and dining utensils. Photos mixed with paintings with only the donor in common. It makes no sense at all. Exhibitions fork in all directions causing you to retrace your steps.
You have staff using speaker phones while others did listen to loud music. On entry the receptionist simply pointed to a map with nothing else to add. On a global scale we haven't experienced anything like that at any other art museum.
But there are some rays of light. You have works of Diane Arbus, Georgia O'Keeffe, Pissarro, and Gainsborough. Entry and parking is on the back and it is free making a visit survivable.

It was a nice place to look at art. It was free to walk through and we enjoyed it. Inside and out have displays. The water fountain outside was pretty too.

This museum was quite a pleasant surprise for our family. Particularly considering it is free, we were very impressed with the exhibits. There is almost too much to see, to be honest. For us, the highlight was the Wedgwood collection, since we enjoy that. But the paintings and other art were very good as well. Absolutely a must-visit. Conveniently located within walking distance to the Hampton Inn & Suites in downtown/Tutwiler. We spent about 2 hours but could have easily spent more time.

Birmingham is better because of this museum and its staff. Fluctuating exhibits, careful storytelling, well curated speaker series and events, and celebrations of authentic cultures. And it's free! Honestly, I lost some notes from one of their speakers and the staff was so quick and helpful to send me the recording of the event. They are great to work with and an asset to the city.
