Quelle désolation de voir un endroit si beau mais si peu protégé. Si vous aimez la nature, allez-y, si vous aimez protéger la nature; abstenez-vous. Le tourisme de masse, non contrôlé, mal géré a déjà fait fuir de nombreux animaux. J'y suis restée plus de 10 jours, j'ai vu des centaines de canoës à moteur passer, des centaines de litre de gazoline, des bruits humains constants (moteur, générateur, pompage de l'eau, fête, musique etc.). Parfois le soir, 5 canoës avec des dizaine de personnes à bord à moteur en train d'illuminer un pauvre caïman qui n'a rien demandé. Idem la journée. Natifs et touristes, vous avez envie de conserver ces endroits pour le futur, pour que vos enfants puissent également voir cette belle nature sauvage? Alors réfléchissez à deux fois car ce qu'il se passe à la réserve de Cuybeno est dramatique. L'équilibre avec la nature ne peut pas être maintenu ainsi. Il faut faire autrement. Et tant que ce ne sera pas le cas, évitez cette zone, ce sera toujours quelques litres de gazoline en moins.

We stayed at the Nicky Amazon Lodge for 3 nights/4 days and had a wonderful time. Great food and people. It was nice they had made the meals vegetarian for me. Each day there are 3 excursions by canoe and walking around the property, spotting animals at various times of the day. Only sad part was leaving. Once in a lifetime memories!

The area was fantastic, Got to experience it with an excellent naturalist who took us on day excursions, night walks, boats, and canoes. Learned a lot, saw a lot, experienced a lot.

We had a five days tour and we didn't want to leave! Tha magic of Cuyabeno nature is hypnotic! It is the jungle, the river, the communities, the pink dolphins, butterflies in all colors flying around... It is a Paradise!

On est ici au coeur de l'Amazonie sauvage. On se sent au bout du monde et ému par la beauté des paysages et les couchers de soleil magiques ! La faune est d'une richesse incroyable et les guides des lodges font leur maximum pour que l'on puisse observer les animaux dans les meilleurs conditions. Le mois de juillet est parfait pour visiter Cuyabeno. Il y a généralement une bonne saucée tous les jours mais cela passe vite. Les arbres fuitiers sont à maturité en juillet ce qui fait que les singes et oiseaux sont nombreux en bord de rivière et facilement observables. Le niveau d'eau étant asser haut, les pirogues peuvent s'aventurer dans pas mal d'endroits... Et pour les amateurs de photo, la luminosité est sublime avec de très beaux reflets :) !

That was the best tour for my family and the other family we went with. We still think of our tour guide Elvis fondly. When we finished the tour, the oldest boy was very sentimental and weeped a bit. Food was great and we had a wonderful Christmas celebration at the lodge.

Lots of animals but don't expect a show of jumping crocodiles and monkeys eating in your hand (I saw some people being disappointed). Animals are wild, they stay away from you most of the time and they hide in the trees. Hence, bring binoculars and a good zoom to take nice photos. I went during the rainy season so the water level was high, swimming was good but I hear there is a 4m difference in the water level between seasons. I experienced sunny and rainy days and have to say it was much better on a sunny day.
I did the usual day walk, night walk and village. We only saw small spiders and frogs during the walks. I was expecting to see birds or monkeys but we didn't see any. We heard them though. Most of the animals we saw were close to the water, so we saw them while going around on the boat.

My daughter and I stayed at Dolphin Lodge, which was a fabulous 5 day experience in the Amazon! Ronald our guide however made ALL the difference. He was very passionate , entuathisatic and very knowledgeable about all the fauna and flora (I especially appreciated his love for birdwatching)! He shared his bird book with me daily and also found fabulous rarer birds, like Pichoos and Wrens. His explanations of the uses of endless flora by the indigenous people was fascinating too.He seemed to be excited about every trip, be it 6am birding in the rain, a night walk finding tarantulas and boas, or cruising the river to see EVERYTHING possible, including stunning sunset swims. Our visit to the local village was also wonderful with Ronald, and he somehow managed to make us not feel like invasive tourists, as he translated the Shaman's words and helped cook the delicious lunch. He never babied or bossed us, or make us feel like we were a group of ignorant tourists in his environment. Thank you for an experience of a lifetime Ronald!

Hola... Me gustaría ir a visitar la reserva ecológica de este lugar en lago agrio, me gustaría tener algun a información en cuanto a hoteles o hosterías cercanas y si ahy alguna guía turística confiable, o algún centro de turismo al cual fiarse...

Hello, i don't see any reviews that they saw giant otters in Cuyabeno. Are there giant otters there or should i go to another region to see them? thanks in advance

Hey, Im just wondering how you went about going to the cuyabeno reserve. And if you know if it is possible to do it without a tour. Also if you took a tour which company did you use. It sounds like you had an amazing experiance.

you need to go with the rangers on the tour . The tour you can book directly at Cuyabeno lodge 4-5 nights
flight until Lago Agrio
then bus during 2 hours and then max 3 hours on long tail boat
Cheapest way is all by bus then you have aprox. 13-14hours bus

What size luggage can be accommodated on the canoes? I will have a carry-on size suitcase and a backpack. Just want to make sure this will be okay.

I wouldn’t worry about it. My husband and I had been travelling 10 months when we got to the reserve so we had our huge back packs.
No one minded the boats can fit 7/8 of those huge bags at the front of the boat. A lot of other people had the same huge backpacks :)

We stayed 3 nights and thought perfect amount of time. 2 nights works too. It took us much time to travel there. It's very remote to get to. We traveled from US. to Quito. Then in the morning flew to Lago Agrio. Then 2.5 hr bus ride (including 1 stop for snacks) AND 2..5 hr motor boat ride.

I am 84 years old and moderately active. Are the programs here more strenuous then I should consider? I and my son are planning a June visit. Will we find weather unpleasant [rain, heat, humidity]?

You can go from Quito to Lago Agrio by plane or private bus, the plane leaves at 09h15 every day USD 184,00 round trip , bus leaves evry night at 11h15 pm. Usd 30,00 round trip. To visit the Reserve you must contac any Cuyabeno tour operator.
