Amazing entertainment!!! A must see if you are visiting Munnar, Kerala. Very nice people that will surprise you with a nerve-tickling performance. Also very recommended to visit both shows.

This was the first time I saw a kalari kshetra show.
The interesting part is how complete this discipline is : it somehow combines combat with different weapons, jumps, yoga, forms of dance...
The sound quality of the microphone is not great so we ended up missing a lot of explanations but the show is spectacular enough to make up for it!
Congratulations to all the artists-sportsmen!

I really enjoy dance performances so thought the Kathakali would be interesting. Sadly anyone familiar with UK panto would recognise the similarities- large men, one in drag, heavily made up. But without the speech. The narrator was unintelligible - mumbling explanations in heavily accented English. Lots of audience participation for laughs. Then a short ‘performance’ - an hour felt endless sitting on hard benches.
The martial arts were better and good fun but not astounding. And there is a danger element in the type/amount of open flames they were using- it also made the arena stink.
Both sets of performers wanted/expected tips (the Kathakali for photos).
My recommendation if you are thinking of going - give the Kathakali a miss and set in the back rows for the fighting.

I recommend watching both shows. They differ greatly in both content and emotions. If in the first show the actors hold the viewer's attention with a virtuoso theatrical performance, then in the second show with no less virtuoso sportswear.

The first show , is an historic legend of old Indian heritage. Very interesting and colorful. 2 actors perform for 1 hour , first artistic pantomime and then the legend .come 15-20 minutes in advance to watch the makeup process . The second show , some acrobatics and martial arts , you really may skip. Each show costs 2 USDLRS.

It's one must not miss event though It was less promoted. In some aspects it was even better than dubai safari show. It's available at very low cost. But full of talent, we ought to attend this to promote this magnificent talent show

This is a definite experience one should make time for when visiting Munnar. It was an absolute delight to see such talented martial artists put their skills up for a wonderful spectacle! This happens everyday from 6pm to 7pm so it's a perfect thing to do after a full day or sight seeing and activities! A special mention to the Master Mr. Lalu who spent sometime talking with us about the art and showed us some of the weapons they use!

.If visiting Munnar don't leave without seeing either BHARAT NATYAM or KALARIPAYATTU performance at Kalari Kshethra venue in Chithirapuram in Munnar.The show scheduled for 1800-1900 hrs started a bit late and the start ceremony began with the Hindu ritual ceremony of offering homage to the deities, similar to the " Kathakali Dance" opening ceremony I had seen in Kochi.After the initial prayer offerings the actual demonstration show began and held me spellbound from the word " Start".Watching " LIVE" and seeing Kalaripayattu in media is a World of difference .Seems late Martial arts actor Bruce Lee's " Nun Chuk" skill was a inspiration of Kalaripayattu warriors wielding sticks or flexible metallic belts.
The flame show's concerning skills of handling a flaming torch was also beyond the compass of normal human mortals.At the end of the show the audience were allowed to get themselves photographed with the Kalaripayattu artists who akin to normal sports players had their name imprinted on the back of their shirts.

they sell them on the door. 200 rupees per show. so for me and my gf we spent 800 for two hours of very good entertainment. hope this helps

You can find tuk-tuk after show, there are many on the street. It's most cheaper.

Hi,
I left a review of your establishment back in May and inadvertently gave you only 2/5. I sent a revision to Trip Advisor amending this to what i intended, namely 5/5 and assumed this amendment had been published. It was only when I looked back on my reviews today that I found the original rating still in place.
