We hired a Tuk Tuk, for a day, to visit all the ruins and sites off the island. This former Portuguese settlement, was on our route, so we decided to stop here. There was no one around when we reach this site. There was an area of excavation and a church named San Petro Church. There is a museum and an excavated pit of graves of buried Portuguese with the skeletons being preserved.
As you walk deeper, you will reach the river bank, with the Japanese village just across it. There was no entrance fee and we spend about 30 minits here.

Interesting, but not really very interesting and quite amateurish. Very little to see. 10 mins and its over. Shame, it could be so much better.

Carino ed interessante. Primo villaggio portoghese in thai con lo scopo di commercializzazione. Insieme ad altri stranieri, olandesi, giapponesi (il villaggio è abbastanza vicino), furono i primi a commerciare con i thailandesi. Nell'insediamento son state ritrovate alcune fossa dalle quali si possono vedere le ossa dei defunti.

公共の交通がなく不便ですが、団体観光ツアーどころかほとんど観光客がおらず、ゆっくりとメコン川のほとりで、ゆっくりできます。対岸には、日本人村跡がありますが、こちらの方が行く価値があると思います。英文展示パネルも当時の様子がわかり興味深いです。

Although there is not much of the settlement left, it is interesting to walk round the church which has placards with all the information on them.
The Westerners who settled in Ayutthaya were invited to do so by the then King. Ayutthaya was the richest city in the whole of Asia due to the King’s welcoming of Free Trade and allowing various nations such as Japan, Portugal, Holland, England and even the French to build settlements so they could establish trading hubs.
The Church has a section of the floor which is open and one can see the graves of buried Portuguese with the skeletons being preserved.
Recommended for families and history buffs.

The story of why the Portuguese and other Europeans were here in Ayutthaya is very interesting. It was fun to walk around inside and see the digs there and read all the broads to learn what happened here all thse years ago. This settlement is just down the road from the Catholic Cathedral so you can see the two places at the same time.

Pada masa Ayutthaya, ternyata ada misionaris Portugis yang juga datang kesitu. Tempat ini adalah buktinya. Di dalam ada reruntuhan desa Portugis yang dibangun dengan bata merah seperti kuil-kuil kuno di Ayutthaya. Kemudian ada juga tulang belulang dari kubur misionaris Portugis. Kemudian disini juga ada sebuah gereja yang lebih baru dibangun jadi masih bagus kondisinya. Sangat menarik mengetahui sejarah ini.

We were visiting the many thai ruins and temples when we saw a directional sign - Portuges settlement 4 kls, so i wanted to visit something different. Inside the building built to commemorate the contribution that the Portugese gave to Thailand there are several story book displays outlining their input to architecture, buiding materials, weaponary, skills and trade. Also there is a revealed burial site with several skeletons being displayed. The old settlement ruins are featured nearby. The settlement swite has a direct access to the Chaophaya river where import and export once flourished. I believe many Portuges citizens would be interested but perhaps not many other apart from history freaks like me.

ถึงแม่ว่ามาที่นี่จะไม่ได้มีอะไรให้ดูมากนัก แต่ก็ยังดีที่รักษาพื้นที่ ที่เป็นโบราณสถานซานเปโตร ที่ประกอบด้วยสุสาน ที่พักอาศัย และประกอบพิธีทางศาสนาของชาวโปรตุเกส ที่เข้ามาค้าขายและเป็นทหารอาสาในสมัยก่อนค่ะ
