Good place for boating - remember though that it is more taxing on your body than it looks :-)

This was a hidden spot in Mysore for me. This place is a lake + aviary. Located within the city. There is an entrance fee of ₹50 for adults and parking fee of ₹50 for four wheelers for four hours. Parking space is quite vast. Mask is a must and you will have to buy one for ₹5 in case you don't have one though the people selling weren't wearing it themselves.
There is a lake inside where boating is available. Peddle boat costs ₹30 per person for 10-15 mins ride and a boat ride costs ₹60 per person for ~10 mins ride. Getting your turn to the ride might be tricky as it's not well organised here. You can see some migratory birds in the small islands and tall trees in the lake.
There is also an aviary in the premises which has different bird types. There is no entrance fee.
There is also a small park for children and seats for visitors to relax.
Overall this place is a must visit when you're in Mysore.

This park is very close to the zoo and we can visit zoo from inside the park as well.
Ample Parking space is available for both 2 wheelers and cars.
The charges are 50 for adults and 25 for kids.
They have a combo package for the zoo and park too.
Cycles are available for rent.
There is a kids play area, butterfly park, boating inside the park.
Lots of different birds can be seen too.
Overall a very good place.

Boat service available, Can plan small ride

Visited after 8 years. Place has gone down a bit. The lake had weeds and did not look as pristine as it had earlier. Also, the tower facing the lake was closed. Still, worth a visit! Great place to walk and soak in nature. The aviary was fantastic - peacocks and other birds!

Karanji Lake located near the heart of the city has been extensively renovated and is rather well maintained with greenery and walkaways. The entrance to the park has ample (paid) parking space for visitors. The park has a nominal entrance fee used for maintaining the facilities.
A couple of attractions worth a mention
* Lookout tower - There is a streel lookout-tower adjacent to the lake. By climbing up, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Mysuru and the lake area.
* Boating on the lake - Paddle boats are available to rent at a reasonable price. You can rent one and go boating around the lake.

Its huge, You can just keep on walking. Very peaceful place, i could not many of these places during my latest visit as all were closed.

The park has a good collection of trees but otherwise it was a bit of a let down. The butterfly garden does not have any butterflies. The lake is good to see from a distance - we did not go close or even to the viewing tower as we have young children. There are the following which are nice: a small orchid collection, an aviary (with roosters, peacocks/peahens/parrots/cranes), children's play area with birds on display. Otherwise nothing much to see. Nice thing to note is that they take a deposit when you carry plastic or food inside the park and that is refunded if you show that you have brought all the stuff back - small initiative to keep it plastic free.

Surely a family place, with An aviary, children's park, boating & many more! Afternoons are really good, though sunrise also is fine. They close by 6 PM, Officially.

Rs. 25 adults & 15 for children. 15 Minutes in a boat of 8 to 10 People. Worth if you are going after 5 PM ( Photographically GOLDEN Hours)

Why the lake is open from 8:30 onwards?.. I understand the working staff timings but this is ideal place for joggers.. You can keep the birds sanctuary open from 8:30 but you should allow for jogging from at least 6am.. That would be great actually.. Please check on it if possible...

This may be because it is developed as a bird and butterfly sanctuary. Joggers might disturb the environment for these species. They need time for themselves, you know!
