This is a very nice old church with nice interiors and has a quiet and peaceful feeling about the place. Do visit during service to enjoy the real experience of being there.

This is very much newly constructed to highly maintained so it is very much neat and clean place. Sit here and pray to god with other devotees.

This is a beautiful church with a nice architecture. Old monument which needs attentions. Located near Regal cinema this church has a peaceful ambiance.

On a Sunday morning walking from Regal cinema towards Taj Mahal hotel in search of Linden House, I came across Bowen Memorial Methodist Church, a beautiful heritage structure that has been forgotten by most!. Bowen Memorial Methodist Church is one of the oldest Churches in south Mumbai and was dedicated in 1889 to the memory of the Rev. George Bowen.
George Bowen (April 30, 1816 - February 5, 1888) was a missionary born in Middlebury, Vermont. At sixteen, Bowen decided on a literary career combined with music. Bowen studied German, French, Italian, and Spanish and further mastered these languages by extensively travelling Europe from 1836-1840. The death of his fiancée began a drastic transformation in his life and he arrived in Bombay on Jan 19, 1848, where he lived until his death in 1888. Bowen was Associate Editor and then Editor from 1854-1888 of the Bombay Guardian. Bowen was also editor of the Marathi publications of the Bombay Book and Tract Society and Secretary to the Religious Tracts Society.
The church's spire is lost in the cacophony of neighbouring structures, the calligraphed entrance plaque just another in a line of shop fronts. Built in honour of the missionary George Bowen in 1887, it is one of the first three Methodist churches built in Mumbai. It is also the only one that hasn't moved from its prime position on the Gateway road. In the early years the Church building dominated the skyline. Today, its physical prominence may have diminished because of 21st century commercial structures, but yet if you love architecture and heritage buildings, you will not miss this beautiful small Church.
Its architectural style was a compromise effected for economy. Mumbai's tropical climate dictated the ornate timber balconies and tiled roofs, the function necessitated the tall Gothic spire surmounted by a cross. It makes the building look like a colonial bungalow that would rather be a church.The interiors of the church are simple, solemn and clean.
By letting out half of its premises to other users, it has solved the economic crises which plagued it in the past. Bademiyan the famous Colaba eatery operates on land rented from the church 40 years ago. Recently, the 129-year-old Bowen Memorial Methodist Church has filed several complaints with the BMC and the Heritage Committee against Bademiya, alleging that heat, smoke and fly ash from the eatery's ovens are ruining the heritage building.
Today, the church, a Grade II-A heritage structure built in 1889, is in a pathetic state. Please take your time to visit this hidden history before it vanishes from Mumbai !
