Rakesh did a great job with our Dharavi tour combined with a city tour. He was on time (in fact early) for everything, knowledgeable, easy going, and flexible. We went with our kids ages 12 and 15 and he was a great family guide as well. Very good worthwhile tour.

We were met at Churchgate station and our train tickets were sorted for us and we headed off towards Dharavi. Having seen Slumdogs the movie, and knowing what a western slum area is like, I came in expecting to see something similar.
Right from the start of the tour that preconception was blown away as the area revealed an amazing amount of business activity and community spirit. Don't get me wrong, living conditions were pretty ordinary but the people were making the best deal that they could and were very happy and supportive of their community.
We were surprised to learn that there were distinct communities for the different ethnic regions as well as a police force, hospitals, schools and shops. Communities banded together and all chipped in to make advancements in their areas without any outside assistance. Our guide for the day was very knowledgeable about the area and answered our numerous questions happily. It seemed like in no time at all we had come to the end of the tour and all 3 of us were left with a totally different view of Dharavi.
I would totally recommend this tour to everyone.

Our visit to Dharavi with Rajesh was truly amazing. I wasn’t sure I wanted to do the trip because I thought it might be disrespectful to “view “ people and their homes. Instead we saw a huge community of different faiths from different parts of the country going about their daily lives- children heading to school; home bakeries producing goods for markets and hotels; large scale recycling of plastics, from old broken goods to a finished product ready to sell back to the companies for toy and computer manufacture; potters and leather workers and much more. Walking the narrow alleys with their sounds and scents allowed us to see a completely different world. Rajesh took time to explain everything we saw. A must-do.

I had visited Mumbai many times but never before Dharavi. After contacting several recommended tour companies I booked the "Longer Yard" Private Tour of Dharavi with Slumgods, mainly because of their competitive pricing, quality of their guides and fast and responsive communication before the trip.
I was picked up at 8am by my guide RAJESH and driver. The car was very clean and comfortable. The early start meant we were at Dharavi within about 20 minutes. I do recommend doing a morning tour.
I didn't find Dharavi as shocking as I was expecting. To call it a slum is unfair because this is a dense urban environment, well ordered and in most parts clean and well cared for.
I found the tour fascinating and inspiring. To see so many people from different communities living so close together in peace and mutual respect was humbling. I was able to take some photos with my mobile phone, but as always you should engage with the subject and ask their permission before taking a photo. The guide clearly explained when we were at a location where photography was not allowed or appropriate.
Rajesh was an excellent guide. Young, enthusiastic and deeply knowledgeable. He took good care of me and regularly asked me for my feedback. A highlight was when we stopped at a chai stall ran by an immigrant from Rajasthan. It was a great opportunity to engage with the locals.
I strongly recommend making a trip to Dharavi and choosing Slumgods for your tour. I would recommend wearing strong shoes that can be easily washed as inevitably there are some areas a little muddy or dusty. I also think its best to wear modest clothing (not shorts) out of respect to the local community.

Excellent tour and much better than I anticipated. You see what real life is like in the slum which is fascinating. It's a must do if spending a couple of days or more in Mumbai.

Fascinating insight into Dharavi. Had some hesitation initially but tour was insightful, informative and puts perspective into a visit to Mumbai. Our guide Rakesh is a native of Dharavi and proudly showed us his neighbourhood. Many thanks Rakesk, your understanding of the area was second to none.

Usually I do not like tours but this one I actually enjoyed! The tour guide made a difference. We had a great tour! He was very good with English. He was patient with us and gave us time to explore more what we wanted to see. He was flexible and not pushy but VeRY knowledgeable. Everybody loved him!

Raunak took me and a group of friends through Dharavi. It was an incredible chance to see another side of India up close. He knows the neighborhood inside and out and took us into many places we would not have been able to see otherwise. He knows many people in the community who were warm and friendly to us, because we were with him. He is like an encyclopedia with his knowledge of the culture, history and politics of the area. The most exciting part for us was walking through the narrow alleyways of the residential district.

I sent a late enquiry about a tour for the next day and got a reply shortly after saying to meet at 9am at a cafe near the train station. Next day I made my way there and was met by Ronak. He was very friendly and spoke perfect English. 3 more people arrived for the tour and Ronak explained about the background of the Slums and life there and answered any questions. Then we followed him to the Slums and he showed us different businesses run from the slums and was very informative. It was great being in a small group as it felt less intrusive. The walk down the extremely narrow alleys was my favourite part and it was just unbelievable that people lived down such dark narrow lanes. An excellent tour!
