Mylapore is an older part of Chennai, interesting to visit for many reasons. Friendly one table cafe, small businesses, large churches as much more. There is of course the slum area too. Some must sees are the Kapaleeshwarar Temple, Kapaleeshwarar Temple Tank, Swami Shwetambar Jain Temple, St Thomas Cathedral Basilica. You wouldn't really want to visit Nochikuppam beach which just looks like a rubbish dump.

Had an excellent stay at Courtyard by Marriott - good facilities and food. The staff is very warm and courteous. Found Mr. Narayan, House kpg Executive to be very helpful

I had a tour of this neighborhood in Chennai, the main structures/sights are the st thomas church and kapaleeshwarar temple which i both visited. This is the ancient part of the city although it looks like a very typical neighborhood for indian big cities. I enjoyed the photographic opportunities, especially the sacred tank next to the temple

It is one of the oldest residential neighborhoods of Chennai and an interesting area to walk. Kapaleeshwarar Temple is nearby and many other places of interest. Most important for us was Saint Thome Basilica which is also part of this district. It houses the tomb of Thomas the Apostle. Strolling through Mylapore is both safe and pleasant. Best of course is to do it with a guide or at least a map of the neighborhood.

I spent my childhood in Mylapore and hence returning for a visit was nostalgic, although it has become extremely commercial and crowded. But walking through the streets around Kapaleeswarar temple tank and by lanes brought back memories, not to forget the relegious fervor of the Markazhi month

Its a great place to stay in Chennai. The green cover is better than most parts of Chennai. There are wonderful restaurants as well as parks and bazaars. A few fascinating temples as well

Hi! Typically, You can shop lot many things at Mylapore area. Clothes, Sarees and lots of other things. Near By Temple of Lord Kaplileshwar and Surrounding areas.

There is Marina beach, a few temples and churches and city centre mall. Vivekanand museum facing the beach is also worth visiting before enjoying a long walk along the lovely wide promenade
It is easy to travel by auto rickshaw which can take you to various places and wait for you

Eu não fiz passeios com guia, mas estava sempre em grupo (pelo menos 3 pessoas) e também às vezes com amigos indianos, pois pratico um sistema de meditação indiana há 8 anos e tive oportunidade de conhecer muitas pessoas na Índia. Nada me pareceu perigoso em Chennai, mas os indianos que conheci orientavam a não sairmos à noite (especialmente porque éramos mulheres). Sobre a necessidade de guia: acredito que é bom ter um guia pois as cidades indianas são confusas e nem todos falam inglês. Estou indo de novo em fevereiro e farei alguns tours sozinha pelo Rajastão, neste caso, pretendo contratar uma agência, pois para mulheres (especialmente estrangeiras) não é tão tranquilo se deslocar entre as cidades indianas.

Nuno Pires. Eu não comprei jóias e tecidos na Índia, comprei algumas roupas e presentes em shoppings. Em Mylapore próximo a praia há alguns bons shoppings e há lojas de todos os tipos. Mas não lembro exatamente o nome dos estabelecimentos. Frente a Marina Beach há uma loja de roupas em algodão de boa qualidade que se chama Fabi Indi, da qual gostei muito.
