It is an Old Temple maintained by HRCE,Tamilnadu. This temple is located in Thiruvottiyur, Chennai. It is a beautiful Shiva temple. It has many Lingams and Hindu deities. Tamil Masi Month festival is popular.This temple can be reached by bus from Broadway bus Station or Chennai Metro easily.

Sri Tyagarajar Temple in Tirovottriyur is one of the 3 Shivasthalms along the East Coast of Chennai .Starting Tiruvottriyur to the north of Chennai, Central Chennai is Tirumayilai where is famous Kapaaleeswarar Temple and South of Chennai is Tiruvanmiyur Shivsthalam.
Sri Tyagarajar Temple , Tiruvottriyur is a majestic , grand temple having been associated being Aadi Guru Shankarachrya .
Temple can be easily reached as Tiruvottriyur is one of the major road starting or end points for local Chennai Bus routes .
Addidtion , there is also a local train station whereby one can get a train from Chennai suburban Railways , reachable in less than half an hour .
From Tiruvottriyur arailway sration might be a walk of about 15 minutes to the grand Sri Tyageshwarar Temple .
The temple is widespread and one needs a minimum over an hour to two to visit the main shrine and many surroundind shrines .
The main Linga here is said to be covered with a kavach and is supposedly not touched even while performing the daily ritual puajs and abhishekams .
There is a very powerful atmosphere of divine influence whilst being within and around .
Gives a sense of utmost satisfaction and fulfillment to be there .

TNT020 - Thiruvottriyur Shiva temple (or) Thyagaraja Temple - This temple hosts Lord Shiva in 2 forms - One as Lingam named Sri Adipureesar and one has Lord Natraja called Thiagaraja in seating position. The Adipureeswarar sannithi is very auspicious and powerful. The temple is quite big and also hosts sanctums for Lord Shiva as Thiruvottrieswarar, Lord Kala Bhairava and much more. This temple is special in one more way - one the three Sakthi temples -
Ichchaa Sakthi - Thiruvudai Amman
Gnaana Sakthi - Vadivudai Amman
Kriyaa Sakthi - Kodiyidai Amman
The Thyagaraja Temple hosts Goddess in the form of Vadivudai amman representing Gnaana Shakthi. We spent close to 30 minutes in this temple as visiting all sanctums took time during puja.

This is one of the famous temple in thiruvotriyur.Temple is built in vast area. Every deity had seperate temple which is special here.we can see seperate lingams for all Stars here.Main deity is vadivudai Amman and shivan.Temple pond was there but there was only little water.A garden was well maintained which had trees as per stars. A protective covering was there for main Shiva lingam.Chariot ceremony will be taken place for special occassions.Thiyagaraja shrine is located very close to main Sivan sannadhi.While entering Shivani sannadhi you can feel lot of peace and positive vibration occupying your mind.Architecture was great.Also prasadam stall was available.

This is a big temple hidden in the busy area of Thiruvottiyur in North Chennai. I was taken by surprise when I visited this temple. It is over a big area. Also known as Thiruvadivudaiamman temple. This place has also lingams for all the stars!! Do not miss this. Reasonably crowded.

This temple is an ancient temple, but maintained nicely. it houses all possible gods of shiva and has many small temples within the complex. it is situated in the middle of busy Tiruvottiur, a north chennai subrub.
car parking is a pain , though there is a place, as in many places in chennai, a person promptly collects parking fees!!
For amman, you can buy a special ticket ,costing 25 rs per person. you can go inside and have a close up darshan.. some people keep their keys(related to business) and offer puja.
you get some eatables like pongal which cost 12rs

This ancient temple is actually a collection of many smaller temples within itself and is located in the busy and bustling Thiruvottriyur area in North Chennai.
Temple's history is associated with several saints, notably Sundarar. His second wedding took place before the Vanni tree inside the temple premises. The temple is also associated with Kaliya nayanar (one of 63 nayanmars).
The Siva Lingam in the temple is considered to be formed of a huge mud mound and is always covered with protective covering. This covering is removed only once a year (believe it to be around Karthigai Deepam festival). Lord Vadivudai Amman attracts the maximum attention here and people throng the Goddess on Fridays, Sundays and Full Moon days. If you are a first timer, don't choose these special occasion days as the darshan time is greatly shortened to accommodate the crowd.
The temple is also classified as one of the divine 275 shrines glorified by Thevaram hymns.
The temple has lingams for every star which is something unique to this shrine.
I personally like the Lord Ganesha of this shrine, a majestic and imposing idol that sends several vibrations within you.
Watch out for Vatta paarai amman, the erstwhile ferocious deity who was later pacified by Sri Adhi Sankara.
Also watch out for Ega padha murthy (idol of Thri murthis with one leg) which is found in only two temples, the other being Suruttapalli temple.
This temple is associated with the Thyagarajar cult and the Thygarajar shrine is found very close to the Moolavar shrine. There are separate shrines for each of the pancha bootha lingas, Thiruvottreeswarar, Nandavana eeswarar, Lord Muruga, Kuzhandai eeswarar, Bhairava and Saneeswara.
After this temple, pls plan to visit Pattinathar jeeva samadhi which is about 1 to 1.5 kms from this temple on the sea shore. This samadhi is in close proximity to a seashore slum area and the locals advise to complete the visit before 7 PM on safety concerns.
