Chennai Metro has connected it very well. We use app of CMRL to avail 20% discount and also it saves time. Very Clean stations and easy to navigate

Worst staff in any metro station. Never act polite and very lethargic in passengers concern. We have faced Very rude behaviour many times

In Chennai this more affordable and comfortable transit. It covers pretty much all key areas in the city but not covers the IT corridors like OMR TAMBARAM etc..

Good Service Good metro launch by Indian government . Good maintain , clean , But most of the tkt counter employee don't understand other language , they understand only Tamil , you need to help your self if you are not from tamilnadu . Atleast Metro management should give training to atleast understand our national language Hindi or English .
Or keep a signboard out side of metro we understand only Tamil, of you don't know Tamil Help your self

The Chennai metro rail is a complete hastle free and comfortable mode of transport when you need to reach your destination. Specially when you want to reach on time as per your plans. I had recently lost my card holder when I was getting out of the station, and the staff had actually preserved it and handed it over to me when I enquired the next day about seeing such a thing. So glad to have received such a favour. Grateful for the Chennai metro rail! :)

I landed at Chennai Central on the morning of 12th March. I had planned to proceed to Pondicherry for which I had to go to Koyambedu Bus terminal.
When I came out of station, I was told that there is Metro from Central which takes to Koyambedu.
I reached Metro Station. I was wondered to see the station underground. I purchased a ticket to CMBT and reached the Platform. Wow.. It was fantastic. I was wondering whether I am in Chennai or in any International airport. Such is the ambience.
In two minutes the Metro arrived. The outer door and the Metro door opened. I made my entry into Metro. In about 25 minutes, I reached my destination. The journey was so comfortable. Its a really time saving journey. Thanks to Chennai Metro for wonderful maintenance.

There is very low AC. The government charges high for tickets saying metro train saying it provides luxury. Is there any difference between ordinary train and metro train other than the fact that it runs underground and it has got orange lights to make it look good.

When I bought the card they did not demand any id proof, and I think it is still the case today. The card is not person- specific: for example your card can be used by any member of the family. Earlier they used to charge Rs.10 for a card, but now I think it is Rs 50. You can charge the card for even small amounts but the whole point is to charge for a sufficiently large amount so that you need not rush to the ticket-counter for every journey. I am not a daily-traveler so I found Rs 200 to be a convenient amount, though I think regular commuters charge it for larger values. I was told, the card is valid for 5 years so there is no hurry to use up the amount quickly. For one-off travelers, you could even buy a single-journey token/ticket. I have never tried it, but you can easily get information check at the ticket-counter in any metro station.

Hi, What is the frequency of train during day time like after 10:00am till 5:00pm ?
Read about tourist card of Rs.100 plus refundable deposit of Rs.50 for multiple rides on a single day. Can we get to purchase this tourist card on all metro stations ? Especially I am concerned on can we buy this at "Nehru Park" metro station ? Do we need to show passport for purchasing this tourist card ?

Hi, we are a couple coming from Nepal with our elderly parents to Chennai Visit. We are thinking for using metro as our major mode of transportation. In metro route map of "Chennai Metro Rail Website" I saw Red and Green line as metro and Purple as "Sub Urban" and Yellow as "MRTS". Does this Purple and Yellow line also falls on metro route or is it a different local trains ?
Want to visit "Kapaleeshwar Temple" and google shows nearest metro is "Little Mount" or "Nehru Park" or "Kilpauk" whereas "Thirumayilai" at yellow line is the nearest MRTS station at Mylaapore.
Please clear our confusion, if anyone have idea. Thank you so much. Deepak.

The Metro Lines in Chennai are still in varying stages of completion. Some sections are open for travel. The sections that are open for travel are a) Chennai Egmore- Airport via Koyembedu Bus Terminal , Alandur Metro Junction, the newly opened route is AG-DMS on Mount Road to Mount Station via Saidapet, Guindy, and Alandur Metro Junction. Both these routes do not touch Mylapore. If you wish to travel the nearest station is AG-DMS Metro Station.
The other routes are the Suburban trains which run from 1) Chingleput-Chennai Beach via Tambaram, 2) Gummidipoondi - Velachery via Chennai Beach and 3) Arakkonam-Tiruvallur to Velachery via Chennai Beach. MRTS (Metro Rapid Transit System), is actually a suburban train system operated by Southern Railways. Some of the Suburban Trains runs on elevated tracks between Chennai Beach and Velachery. Tirumayilai Station is in Mylapore.
To go to Mylapore you have to take the suburban Train from Chennai Beach or Fort or Park from Beach Side or from Velacherry to Tirumayilai. By Metro the nearest station currently in operation is AG-DMS or Teynampet Metro, You will have to take a Taxi or Auto from the Metro stations to reach Mylapore.

Yes u can take a metro from airport to central. It's very easy and convenient way. Travel time is 45 minutes.
