Actually called as Mag Dhog monastery, we were blessed to be staying at a homestay just next door to the Gumpha. Beautifully decorated with lovely murals and colorful paintings, its a small temple but has a strong soul. I am a strong believer in the vibes of certain places, and this place sent out waves of positivity to me, So much so that everyday while I was there, my day started with a walk to the monastery. I would just go and stand or sit in some place and listen to the lovely chants playing inside, and it would make me forget everything else. The monks and the community is amazing too and would often invite you to have food with them or a cup of tea. This is a place that can give you the peace of mind that we so miss in our day to day hustle and bustle. Go there and spend some time just doing nothing and you can feel the joy inside you. Early morning is the time when i preferred to visit and place was mostly empty with just a few locals and monks around.

Aloobari gompa monastery, Darjeeling -West Bengal-India
(Mag-Dhog Yolmowa Monastery)
इस मठ का अधिक्रत नाम Mag-Dhog Yolmowa मठ है. इस इलाके में स्थित होने के कारण इसे "आलोबारी" गोम्पा (बौद्ध मठ) के रूप में भी जाना जाता है. यह एक बहु-मंजिला लाल रंग की विशाल इमारत है.
यह Bagdogra Airport से लगभग 40 km, New Jalpaguri रेलवे स्टेशन से 43 km, सिल्लीगुड़ी रेलवे स्टेशन से 38 km व् दार्जिलिंग स्टेशन से 0.5 km की दूरी पर स्थित है .
इस मठ का निर्माण श्री सांगे लामा द्वारा करवाया गया था, जो योलमो लोगों के पूजनीय धार्मिक गुरु थे. योल्मा लोग नेपाल से आ कर दार्जीलिंग में बस गये थे. मठ का निर्माण 1914 में शुरू हुआ, और प्रथम विश्व युद्ध भी 1914 में शुरू हुआ था. Mag-Dhog का अर्थ है “युद्ध को बंद करना” अत इसको Mag-Dhog Yolmowa Monastery का नाम दिया गया.
मठ में गौतम बुद्ध और पद्मसंभव की मूर्तियाँ हैं, व् चित्र है, और कहते हैं इन्हें घास और जड़ी-बूटियों से बनाया गया है. यह सिक्किम और तिब्बत से आने वाले लगभग 250 भिक्षुओं का घर है. यहाँ के शांत वातावरण में आप को असीम शान्ती महसूस होती है, व् आप आगे की यात्रा के लिए चार्ज हो जाते हैं .
यहां भिक्षु धार्मिक सामान और ट्रिंकेट बेचते हैं, जिन्हें आप यहाँ की याद के रूप अपने साथ ले जा सकते हैं .

It is said to be the oldest Gompa in Darjeeling. Since we were staying at a homestay on the Tenzing Norgay Road, we used to take the road, passing by this monastery, to visit Ghoom and other places. It is a beautiful monastery, very serene , with not many tourists.

Originally called the Yolmowa Mak Dhog Monastry which means keeping wars at a distance it is popularly known as the Aloobari Monastry,Aloobari being the name of the place which is about 3 km from Darjeeling. The bright red and yellow walls and the 2 lions at the gate give the whole place a very striking look!!

Para mi visitar Aloobari fue una experiencia maravillosa, tuve la suerte de estar sola y poder recorrer junto al guía sus pisos, poder sentir la paz del lugar y la historia que emanan sus paredes. Recomiendo su visita y espero que la disfruten como yo.

Compared to the other Gomphas this is a small temple. This overlooks the valley below. It has one shrine located on the ground floor and an older one on the first floor. Serene and quiet.

I really like this gompa. There are two main shrine areas, one up and one down. The one on the ground floor has been renovated, but the upstairs one is waiting for funds. It sits in a peaceful location overlooking the valley.

It is one of the monasteries in Darjeeling all are different from each other and it is worth to see these monasteries.It is situated in small hamlet and you can reach here by walking.Some part is damaged through earthquake.

I went to monastery before to this place so I was not much interested this place as this was similar to other monastery. If you have ample time then only plan to go to this place.

we walk from chowrasta to aloobari and its beautiful hiking too. we recommend to hike though it seems faraway but we enjoy it.. the monastery was under repairing and it was destructed by earthquake couple of years before if i am not wrong.. so their construction is going on when we visit... they might need donation if any person want to
